GEC 68’s, any and all welcome!

Doesn’t appear so. You don’t generally see all steel with Northfield trim. Plus, it doesn’t say on the production schedule where it does for the Jacks.
That's what I figured. I think the pony Jack will be the one for me from this run. The all steel construction is more unique...unless they add a bail, then we'll see.

I love the stamped bail on the Northfield White Owls.

Yeah, I’ve thought about it. I feel like the amount of work and machining the little strip to do it right may be a bit above my skill set.

Hello all, I'm new here. I've been collecting Gecs for about 2 yrs now. I've been very happy with most of my purchases. I got in a 68 ponyjack on Friday. Its a very well constructed knife. I have only 1 issue with it, the long pull on the main clip seems difficult to access bc if the pen blade. I'm wondering why the main blade wasn't in the well closest to us. Maybe it's just my knife .

Yeah, that’s been a small gripe though the years on some two blade models with a secondary on the mark side. I for one happily accept that “issue” over having the pen on the pile side. You can file the kick on the secondary just a tiny amount and it’ll drop the blade into the knife a bit. There’s always a trade off to doing that though. The spring can recess into the spine in the close position, about half as much as what you’ve lowered the blade. If you’re careful, you can do it just enough to where you’ll gain more access to the long pull without sacrificing enough aesthetics on the spring to even notice. That complaint was common on a lot of the spear/pen configuration on the 15 pattern.

Thanks for the reply, your shield on your ponyjack looks perfect. I've thought about lowering the kick on the pen. I would probably screw it up and create blade wrap on the pen. The access of the long pull isn't great but it works. Just a small complaint gec usually builds great knives. I have 15 gecs and only 2 with blade wrap the 89 fruit knife and 71 bull nose. I'm not bashing gec just stating what I have .

Your post got me thinking about the topic..... I pulled (4) two blade jack configured knives with both nicks on the mark side.... You can see the 68 is the worst with the secondary obscuring a lot of the primary nick.... The 85 is better and the two Brand X are without obstruction....

The 68 design could be enhanced to fully expose both nicks by adding 3/64" (1mm) height to the spine of the primary blade..... Not sure why Bill or Randy didn't do that..... Possibly $$$ for a different punch die?20211030_120141.jpg

I don’t love that jigging or that shield or that lettering on it. I was hoping for an elegant penknife in this pattern, not something that looks like it is channeling its inner rustic. I can learn to love the covers and jigging, but the overall combination is disappointing.

That said, I still want one. It is, after all, a Northfield White Owl. And in person it will probably be a lovely knife. Maybe I’ll try for stag and hope I win the lottery? Heh.

I don't care for the shield at all. The bone may actually turn out pretty nice when finished. It's like the 35 cougar clawed bone or the elderberry jigged bone they used on the 2017 78's. It's smooth but provides grip. I like it anyway.

I'm glad they did up the bolsters. I want to see how the color out when done. Looking forward to the stag.
