It looks as if GEC will be making a Jack version of the white owl with the #68 Pony Jack. I've been kind of holding out on the #68 white owl and the #66 serpentine Jack in hope that GEC would make a Jack version of the #68. Photos at the GEC website indicate this to be true, and I can't wait to get my hands on one or two.

The first photo is from GEC's website showing parts for the #68 Pony Jack during production. The following photo is of my late grandfather's Ulster equal end Jack which is the knife that had me hoping that GEC would someday make something similar...

I'm with you on this one. I have a clip blade 68 on my 2013 "todo" list (or is that toget?). Anyway, I am looking forward to this. I carried my ruby red Tidoute White Owl today. So, yep, I'm all in on this one.

After I started a thread on equal end jacks, it seems my wishes are coming true :)
I've always liked the #68 frame, and I was waiting anxiously for a jack configuration...it seems the wait is coming to an end

That's an interesting prospect.

The only thing that annoys me about my #68 is the 'weaker' spring due to its two blades.
A jack of course would answer that problem!

I wonder if it will have a bail?

There will be a run with Clip Main Blade and a run with Spear Main Blade. These will not have Bails. Both will be Tidioute Cutlery. No Northfields announced yet.

Be nice to see a Jack with a bail

I hope GEC will also do a Northfield run of the Pony Jacks. In any case, I think I will probably pick up both a spear and clip version.

Hm... that definitelly has caught my attention. I really love my #66 Serpentine Jack and it would be great having choice to an equal-end-frame in this size of a jackknife. A bail would be cool, too. But if there wouldn´t be a bail it´s not that bad. :)

Could someone please define "Pony Jack" for me? I always thought it implied a peanut sized jack, which the 68 definitely is not?

The only thing that annoys me about my #68 is the 'weaker' spring due to its two blades.

A few attempts with one of GEC's #26s (most often, two discouragingly stiff blades on one spring in a 3" frame) may well have you rejoicing in that "weaker" spring. :p

(For me, the lighter pulls on the White Owl contribute to its elegance, though of course that's an entirely subjective estimation-- as are all of mine! But continually testing my mettle and thumbnails on my two #26s leaves me grateful for the Owl, and noting that its pulls are [evidently] a design decision and not solely the result of two-blades on one-spring.)

Thanks for the picture, which brings this upcoming pattern into clearer focus for me.

I'll be especially interested in others' comparisons of a Pony Jack with a #66 Jack.

Now that some info is leaking...will the secondary blade be a pen, or coping, or what? will it stay in front or behind the main (spear or clip) blade?
An ebony Tidioute with clip/pen or clip/coping with mild pulls and without bail sounds like my next knife ;)

I'm looking back at my info and it looks to me that the Pony Jack is going to be a Farm & Field Knife. Clip/Pen and Spear/Pen in the regular F&F handles: Rust Red Jigged Bone, Antique Yellow Jigged Bone, Ebony Wood and NifeBrite Acrylic.

Bob,
thanks for the info. Any idea of when these will be out for sale?
It kinda surprises me to see that this pattern is going through their F&F line, since their previous patterns based on the same frame went through their "classic" line; yet, as long as they're producing it in ebony, I will be more than happy to try O1 for a change :)

That sounds just fine to me. As long as GEC insists on pinching all the round bolsters on the Northfields I'll stick to the Tidioute brand. This is one knife I will definitely purchase and add to the collection. The old cigar jacks are a beautiful piece.

Interesting that the picture of the blades shows long pulls and cut swedges-- Northfield treatment, not Tidioute.

Didn't all the Tidioute Boy's Knives and TC Barlows have Long Pulls and Swedges? Okay Guys, Here is the word directly from Chris. These will not be F&F Knives. They will be 1095 Carbon Steel Blades and in the same type as the Boy's Knives. Tidioute Cutlery Brand, no etch, no shield. Obviousley Long Pull and Swedge.

Ah, I'd wondered if perhaps you'd mixed up F&F vs. "Boys Knife" in your earlier post. The above makes much more sense. That "antique yellow bone" could prove problematic yet. :o

Thanks for the clarification.

Not a mixup, just a guess due to lack of information. Then I spoke to Chris at GEC and got the full scoop. These will be a pattern in the same line as the Boy's Knives and there are plans for more patterns in this line for the future.
