Just noticed that GEC is putting out a run of the 85s and it looks like some of them at least will have clip blades. I will be interested to see how these turn out, a clip blade on that pattern might be nice.

Oh come on, they do clip blades, but no two blade easy open?
:D

I can't wait to see these as well.

I think they're saving those easy opens for a time when sales are slumping :p

If you want an easy open, the schedule on their website shows that they will be coming out with a single blade #36 with an easy open.

Nice swedges and long-pulls on those, too. I'd like to see one in peachseed jig bone or cocobolo.

I'm not sure, I thought a Teardrop style pattern only works with Spear?

Mind you, it could be interesting.......

I have a custom teardrop easy open with a clip blade made by Ken Coats. There's a little less blade to pinch-grab but it does work. It was modeled after a vintage Remington EO I have with a clip blade.

Thanks Corey, the EZ Open version I can understand but I was wondering about the 'pinchability' on the conventional Teardrop (one of my favourite patterns)

Oh Yes!

Oh Yes, Oh Yes, Oh Yes!!!! :D:D

That's some good news. Been hoping for a clip point on this model since I first laid eyes on it

I tend to prefer a clip for the main blade in a jack knife. However, for some reason this pattern seems to be more consistent with an image in my mind by having a spear main.

Dreaming here now, I would like to see an 85 easy open with a wharncliffe secondary, and the main being a spear that is flatter, with less belly, not as wide as the current 85 spear (with pulls on same side, of course).

No, I don't much like these clip blades on the Teardrop frame, doesn't suit it in my view.

Many will disagree .

Be nice to see GEC offer a large Sheepfoot or Lambsfoot on something other than the Hay n Helper though.

I wasn't certain whether I'd like a clip point blade in this frame, but once I had it in-hand I was sold. It's pretty much the spittin' image of the old Remington R1783 Teardrop Jack. They really shoehorned a whopping clip blade into this smallish handle, and they did it without the edge rebounding into the backspring hump as it's wont to do with the spears. F&F is flawless all around, and the pulls are right in the sweetspot.

Very nice, indeed. Thanks especially for the pictures.

I'm not familiar with the Remington you refer to, but were this pattern a true teardrop (in my understanding: more rounded end) and not the pointier bullet-end characteristic of GEC's 85s, it may have already proven irresistible to me.

Beautiful knife Rick. I'd prefer it with just a single blade though.

I'm going to be trying to find me an 85 EO jack.

Or maybe a single blade barlow when they get out of the factory.

Wow that is sweet, Rick!!! Fantastic pictures too. I will make it my wallpaper and stare at it.
