GEC brand knives

"I just glanced at my excel sheet that I track my knives with. I have 12 GEC knives at an average price of $77.08.
My least expensive was $53.95 and my most expensive was $122.00.
I would say all are a good value."

See, jwh's post reveals just a little of the slippery slope you are stood above.....:)

If you don't buy GECs with stag you'll save a lot of money...but then you won't have any stag :(

I would choose a middle of the road knife, for both size and number of blades. A two-blade knife between 3-5/8" and 3-7/8" closed. Then you could decide for yourself (after using it for a while) if you would like smaller or larger, or more or fewer blades. The pattern #48 or #73 jacks or trappers, plus the #85 bullet end jacks would be a great starting point. You really can't go wrong.

I only have two GEC knives at this point, a 66 pattern Moose with stag scales and a Redneck Farm Tool. I can say, with out any reservations, that they are the best made knives ( fit and finish, walk and talk) that I have ever owned. As far as recommendations I think the TC Barlows, Ereuka Jack, and the 85 pattern SFO from Collector Knives would all be great. I have not seen any of these in person but the pics I have seen and the reviews I have read have been awesome. If I could afford it I would buy any of the three without reservation. Which ever model you choose I don't think you can go wrong with GEC. Juat my humble opinion. Good luck with the search.

Have a great day,
Jeff

Hi Elbowroom, just be glad you do not live overseas cos when the import tax kicks in you can add another $20 or more not to mention 7 to 28 days you have to wait, but even after all that i have sold most of my other makes, Spyderco,Benchmade etc to feed my addiction to GEC the finest Reasonably priced knives money can buy IMHO...If you like small knives try a#5 Pemberton, like a Case peanut only better, slightly larger and a nice size for the pocket is a #68 White Owl, or you could try a...Oh heck they are all good and there is one to suit most folk, good luck and welcome to the madness LOL...

Thanks Kymco. I'm definitely going to start with a wharncliffe blade. Which one...? That's the question!

I would not hesitate to recommend the #57 Halfwhitt,

I just bought my first GEC and went with a Hound Tooth. I love it. It has the best fit and finish of any knife I've ever owned.

This one is a beauty. Does it have a half stop?

Yes it does. I bought it from Mike at collectorknives.net. Can't say enough good about the whole deal, start to finish.

The half-stop to open is tight which I like. The closed to half-stop is much easier which is nice. It's like the best of both worlds. I wish all slip-joints were this way.
