GEC Champlin Eureka Jack??

Neat looking pattern. Guy couldn't decide whether he was making a reverse dogleg or coke bottle, looked at it and yelled - EUREKA.

I hope it will be more than 3" long.

A little something Mike posted on another site........

"I wanted to update all of the members who are interested in the knives we are having made for us by GEC. Derek, Bill and I have been talking about this since our first knife was in the process of being made and have decided that we are going to do a Eureka Jack. We wanted to, again do an older pattern and if you look at the picture that I have included you will see 3 Eureka's. From the left, a custom knife made for me by Ken Erickson an OVB marked knife that was made by New York Knife Co and a Carrier Cutlery salesman's knife. The knife that GEC will be making will have some items from each of these. I have always loved this pattern and since it is an old one thought that it would fit in nicely with what we are doing.

Derek will be updating our website as you knives are being made and you can go to the GEC site to see the knives also. We are hoping to have the knives done by the end of Feb or the begining of March.

We will be doing something special with these also like the wiping cloths being added to the first knife so keep checking the 2 sites for more info."

Oh man...liking the look of that a little too much, especially with that coping secondary and wrap around spring...

It's great to see GEC bring back some less common patterns with this and the Cotton Sampler.

This really is a good time to be Traditional enthusiast.

Just ten years or so ago, it would've been inconceivable that a company would appear and start reviving long defunct patterns, making SFOs. That's why GEC has made such an impact in my view.

Here's and update on the knives.

They are to have all steel construction as the first knife did. The handles will be 50 Stag and 50 Rosewood. The spring for the secondary coping blade will come all around to the front, this is a feature on older knives and custom made knives that we just had to have on this knife. Matchstriker long pull on the main blade and we are toying with having a second pull on the main blade at the front.

More to follow in a few days, Mike

I look forward to this knife, I have #42 in bone from the first run. Nice knife, the secondary blade sits too high and makes it hard to access the long pull on the main. I will definitely be getting a stag Eureka, and hope they don't put the second pull on the main. Looking forward to it. Thanks Mike

Kris

Thanks Chris, you are the second person that does not want the second pull on the main blade so I might scrap the idea!

Thanks for the info Mike, sounds like a winner for sure. Ill echo Kris and hope for just the single pull, the matchstrike will be a nice touch

Another vote for just a single pull on the main blade. I love the matchstrike pull, only problem for me is deciding between stag and rosewood though I'm leaning towards the stag.

There is an interesting story about how wood handles for the upcoming Eureka Jack were salvaged from the old Cattaraugus factory! An heroic effort!!
Find it here on the Champlin website!!

Whoa... now THAT is cool! I really love the idea of using reclaimed materials, since they carry so much history with them into whatever new object they become. And rosewood from the old Cattauraugus factory?? Holy moly.... Makes my neck hairs stand on end! :D
