GEC: Crazy Acrylics!!!

These crazy colorful patterns have been adorning traditional knives for a long time. To me, these acrylics seem to be an update to the celluloid scales that proved to not stand the test of time. IIRC, they won't crack or break as easily as bone. If they are a tougher scale material than bone, then I think they make sense to EDC.

Speaking of crazy, I was actually on the fence about buying this one when it appeared briefly on Mike's site, but it was gone before I threw a leg over. I must be outta my mind, but I kinda like it. :o

Interesting how opinion changes here on the forum.
When I posted this knife a time ago, there were some polite and less polite comments about GECs acylics
Now, it is a different story

Nope - acrylic is extremely tough. Tougher, in fact, than any natural handle material you're likely to find on a traditional knife.

I've heard of acrylic nails, so now I know where that expression tougher than nails! comes from. :D

Damn, I just chipped a nail while typing that!!! :p

So that means I can actually carry my acrylic GEC without it breaking if I drop it. Cool

I have 2 GECs in acrylic that I am really fond of. Dead Skunk, Patriot, and Kryptonite (I know, I won't hold my breath) scaled knives are on my want list. I don't know why but I really liked them once I got my first one:D

Photos cant really do these justice. As they move in the light, they put on a reflective light show. Its subtle, but noticeable.

Thanks again for the pictures and comments everyone!

Very fine specimen there:thumbup:

The Looking Glass Black Pearl that Eric shows is astonishing, almost eerie looking:D

If acyrilic is tough, won't chip or crack as easily as bone, does it scratch up badly and lose lustre, becoming matte? Anybody have experience of carrying it in loaded pockets etc?

I'd really like GEC to do a pen-knife and have it shod in some of these acrylics, make an outstanding knife.

Eric, I'm really diggin' that Cinnamon Swirl. Wish they would put that on a bigger knife.
