GEC does it again

Well, I just shared my 2 cents.
I guess I'll never see the point in making threads that complain about something such as an ethc.

Well Johnny, between your .02¢ and my .02¢ we've got .04¢. Heck, that wouldn't have even bought a Coke out of the nickle ( .05¢) Coke machine back in the 1940s and 1950s.:) So much for opinions!!!

All's good though. I've got a glass of "Sweet Tea" within arms reach as I type this.

I like a nice, unobtrusive, etch - just not the billboard sized ones.

Oh, and I do like a nicely done etch on the oldies.

I imagine only collectors who don't like etches would have reason to complain. I can't see the etches on my users.

Ed, if I could talk GEC into it, I'd get them to etch your name onto a knife and I'd send it to you. :D
I have no problems with you and I really didn't mean to cause anything.

I will agree in the annoyance of the etches. The yellow rose I recieved is an example of how I saw past the etch to get the knife. I can not remember what my #79's etch looked like, it was stuck in a potatoe the day I recieved it ;) , as will my farm tool that just arrived today.

Not a fan of blade etches either, modern or vintage. It was one of the reasons I did not have difficulty parting with my Tidioute White Owl.

The "Tree Brand" is ever so faintly visible on the long turkish clip of my stockman, even though the blade has not seen a lot of use over the years. Just faded with time I guess.

The patina has nearly covered over the Primitive Bone etch of my Ben Hogan, but that was one I actually found appealing.

The design of the etch doesn't bother me. It's more the size and the fact that both blades are etched. If it only had the Missouri Trapper on the clip blade it would look a lot better, especially if it was the size of the Northfield etch.

I do love their blade stamps (the all steel models I have, both have UN-X-LD stamped on the main. Very deeply. The 25 barlow has the stamp on the main, and on both bolsters).

I love them.

As to the large blade etch? Meh. But, It does come off with some use and patina.

I enjoy some of the old fashioned etches. Look through Levines 4th and you'll see plenty of gaudy ones in there too. I can't stand serial numbers scratched into the bolster. But GEC does try hard to make a good marketable product. No one has to like every knife they make. It's nice they make a wide variety of patterns. It looks like the Missouri Trapper is a nice looking pattern, with lovely bone handles, and rest assured it won't sell worth a crap in Kansas.

At least not to those with deep rooted feeling about the Jayhawkers and Red Legs.

I don't particularly care to see the etch, I know what knife I am buying. I don't remember it being a deal breaker though.

I really appreciate the fact that GEC does some small thing "wrong" (to my eye, anyway!) with almost all of their newer patterns . . . it saves me money!
