GEC Edges OOTT

Oh, maybe I misunderstood then. Do you know which years exactly? Genuinely curious if I got any hand-ground blades. I think the earliest GEC I have is from ~2018.
I’m not sure exactly when GEC brought their first CNC machine in, but I think it was around 2018.

I won't speak for anyone else, but in my personal experience, GEC stopped coming with workable, sharp edges sometime around 2021 or so. Virtually every GEC I've obtained from around then forward have come with edges that range from barely passable (still needing an actual sharpening and stropping in order to be up to snuff), to being outright dull. A specific case comes to mind, my #34 Forum Knife came with a secondary pen blade that was apparently overlooked, as I was able to run my finger across it. Slicing paper* was impossible. I have since sharpened both blades, as I've had to do to others. Sadly, this is an area where (again, my direct observation from many, many purchases) Case beats them hands down. Every Case I've ever received comes with a sharp, toothy edge that was capable of being used right out of the box.

Ultimately, it's not the worst problem, because it's easily corrected. However, for what GECs cost, they should come with sharp, ready-to-work edges. All that said, I haven't purchased any GECs from the last four or five model drops because I'm a little burned out on the scramble, as well as their frankly uninspiring cover choices lately, so maybe this has been course corrected.

* something that a slipjoint with its thinner blades should absolutely be able to do out of the box
