GEC Farm & Field #99 Farmer Lock

Remember the blade is heat treated to probably somewhere between 58-61 HRC. Its pretty hard... or should be.

So, BrotherJim, I wasn't able to bring myself to fix it on my own. I reached out to the good folks at GEC and they asked that I send the #99 in to them so that they could fix it for me. Which is awesome...except that I am without my Wall Street! Agh!!!

I'm sure they'll take good care of ya "B". Hope you get it back soon !!! Let us know how it goes

While I wait for my wharncliffe to return from GEC, I picked up this sweet 99 in autumn bone from Blademan13 last week. I polished off the patina (and the etch -whoops!) and shined her up nice! Haven't been able to put it down since I got it. I have noticed the slightest vertical play in it....no matter, still a beauty! [/IMG]

BrotherJim, those are great pics.

I love the single-blade traditionals. the other day, i saw a GEC 99 Farm and Field on the exchange. the price was right, and i figured "why not? i'll check it out." boy, i'm glad i did. this immediately is my favorite single-blade GEC i've had the pleasure of owning (and, i've tried my fair share).

the size is right-on. the scales are thicker than the typical single-blade offering. and, the pull is light, which i prefer. in short, this immediately went into my pocket....and it may not be replaced. good stuff.

I'm really loving the 99. I wanted it in maroon micarta, but I cannot find it anywhere. In fact I've only seen one 99 in the black delrin. I almost bought it, but I'd prefer micarta. I see the Wallstreet as well, but I'm not really a bone guy, so......

There's always Stag... It's beautiful. I think the Wallstreet and Farm & Field are totally different knives though, so it may not scratch that micarta itch.

Thanks to those who contacted me through PM to help me find one. I really appreciate it. I was unable to take advantage of those offers and links right then because I was traveling. Anyway, I just found a 99 in black delrin, which I immediately bought. I am still hoping to pick up a micarta one sometime in the next few months.

I have heard that the delrin and the niteglo might have some slop/play and the micarta does not. How accurate/common is this?

Side note: I really really like the Tidioute WallStreet in the Black ebony wood.

I know the 99 Wall Street has shown that GEC fixed their vertical lockback issues. Since this is the same pattern, is the lockup nice and solid?
I love that micarta.

Yep. Well, pretty much. Back spring is smooth and flush, blade open or closed. In lockup, the blade is only barely (think half a fingernail thickness if that) below the spring at the transition. There is the very slightest of vertical blade play on lockup. I had to try REALLY hard to find it once you mentioned it. I hadn't noticed it at all. There are NO show stoppers or even the remotest disappoint here.
I've always wanted one of these, but heard things about blade play.
Good to hear. Maybe I'll get one soon.

I've got a micarta 99 and an ebony wall street. They both lock up great with a TINY bit of vertical play but my Buck 110 also has a tiny bit of play. The 99s and Wall Streets are awesome knives!

Good to know about the play.

In a related story, it seems I was a bit premature in my celebration at getting one (the black delrin) as I received a call from the distributor this morning concerning my order yesterday. It seems the 99 I ordered yesterday was not in stock and it had not been corrected on the website. Bummer. Still waiting.

Any hope of GEC doing another Farm and Field Tool run of the 99s?

They’re what first brought me into the GEC world, sadly never been able to find one for sale.
