GEC= Gritty, Each needs Cleaning?

Much ado about nothing. I always put a drop or two of Rem Oil in the joints of any knife I get as a matter of course. Compared to Case, Queen, Schatt & Morgan, and others, GEC knives have been, in my experience, very clean upon removal from the tube.

Well, in my experience, they've been the dirtiest I've ever seen, of any knife. By the way they felt/sounded straight out of the package, I wouldn't be all that surprised if I turned them over and pea gravel fell out.

I wasn't trying to make a stir, just wondering if others had recieved knives as dirty. The ebony stockman I just recieved was so dirty that it left permanent damage just from opening and closing the knife a couple times.

If you think a drop or two of oil would have helped the scudge I found in my latest GEC, I'm not sure if you understand entirely just how dirty this knife arrived to me. We're talking ultrasonic cleaning followed by pressure washing followed by acid bath here.

It was so dirty, that my fiance heard me open it for the first time from across the room, and said "Gosh, that sounds like crap".

I guess I have just been lucky. None of my GEC's have been gritty. In fact I have only had this problem with three knives that I can recall. Two of them were lockblade one hand openers and the other was a Rough Rider Barlow.

I hope my good luck continues.

My one and only was like that but so were most of the other brands I purchase. My Tidioute just needed a little more cleaning.

all my new gec's and case knives have come sandy & gritty. its likely because of the final polishing process at the factory and they only clean off the blades and not the tangs. this does not bother me in the least since i give all my knives a little mineral oil bath and clean them with q-tips and cotton cloths before they go into my pockets. i am not a collector though and maybe it would bother me if i did`nt use all the knives i buy.
