I think I'm getting a touch fixated with the #73/72 patterns!

I've ordered a H73 Canoe in Mexican Boycote. It looks like a great little utility/camp knife to me. Also a little bit of wood working whilst being capable of skinning small game too. Much as I love the pattern as a folder i'm always a bit tentative when it comes to heavier whittling, this looks like the solution. It also seems to be really difficult to get a smaller fixed blade with a thinner blade stock these days! I know I like the way GEC's #73 blade performs once I have reprofiled the edge, seems like a no brainer....

As you can see I've talked myself into it but would welcome people's thoughts on the GEC fixed blade models.

Cheers

Sam

If you can still find any of the H73111 Bird and Trout knives from GEC,you'll find they have even a lighter and smaller blade profile than the H73211 Canoe. Very thin and light drop point blade,73 pattern handle and full tang.

Thanks guys,

rma, I have found somewhere with both and nearly went for the Bird and trout. I chose the canoe in the end as it looks like a slightly more versatile blade, still thin but with a touch more tip strength and with the blade being a little deeper than the Bird and trout it should still slice well.

I'll post a little review when it arrives.

Sam,

I have looked at these since I got into GEC but I have yet to purchase one. I look forward to your review and especially your comparison to the 73 folders.

Thanks and congrats!

Kevin

I'm very interested. A Gec canoe ( especially a 73 ) is IMO destined to be a classic I'd love to see an in depth review of this nifty pattern.
