What's the best way of preserving my knives. Is it best to leave them oiled and wrapped in the grease proof paper that GEC supply's them in ?

I store non users oiled in tube . I try to not leave finger prints . I've heard microcrystalline wax has very good protection . It's my understanding that museums use it to protect their collections .

I've never heard anything bad about Frog Lube. I don't use it myself but you might wanna look into it.

I put a drop or two of machine oil on the blade, spread it even, and store it in Armor VCI rust-protective paper, since the GEC supplied wax paper disintegrates quick due to handling. You get about 1000 6"x6" sheets for under $30 on the big river site.

My vote also is for Renaissance Wax. It's less than $20 a jar and well worth it.

I've never used Ren Wax. Anybody ever have a problem with it? Issues after multiple coats getting gummed up, or problems with it building up in the spring/cover/liner cracks? Not having any experience with it, seems to me it would build up in the cracks and crevices. What about using it on bone that's not smooth.. does it build up in the jigging? What about problems with it removing the blade etch?

Thanks in advance, hope my questions don't seem stupid, but I have zero experience with it. I tried to google search images of folding knives with Ren Wax applied and most of what I found were not very helpful.

It is a microsomething wax, it applies very thinly, I have not had any issues like you described, with years of use.

No issues at all with Renwax.
It protects far better than any oil in my experience. On steel, bone, wood, stag, everything. Cant recommend it highly enough.
With that said, I use Mothers California Gold Pure Carnauba wax instead of Renwax. Much cheaper and basically the same type of product. It has to be Pure Carnauba wax with NO added cleaners. I could not find it at any local auto stores,(they all had added cleaners) but was easily ordered online.

No issues here with Renwax either. Just be sure to apply a very thin coat. If you put it on too thick you'll struggle to get it buffed off. You need only apply a thin film. It might not seem like enough but you'll know it is when you buff it off.

The thin film application also ensures that there won't be enough wax to build up in the cracks and crevices. I've never used it on jigged bone so I cannot comment on that.

On another note, I also use Renwax and VCI like LastRodeo mentioned. Quite possibly overkill but the two combined give me piece of mind in knowing that I'm doing all I can to protect my knives.

Ren wax is microcrystalline wax .I switched from oil to ren wax today . I just learned that I applied too much .

I have a couple of backup GEC knives with 1095 blades that I have stored. I went a little overboard though- mineral oil on the blades, ren wax on the spring and covers, and sealed in a vacuum bag.

Those buggers keep finding their way out of their tubes and into my pockets!

Maybe place them in tubes with a liberal coating of gun oil, renwax, wrap in clingfilm, place tube in zinc coffin liner ,weld shut and encase in 10metres of reinforced concrete. That'll keep the little rascals safe muuuhaaahhaah.

Meanwhile back in reality.
I keep them in Plano tackle boxes that I buy as new as I require. They have adjustable compartments i which I either lay er with the wax paper that comes with or cut up bits of t shirt.
I like this because they are stackable and when I want to CE and CF it's like opening a box of chocolates. Give a regular smidgen of 3 in 1 oil and wipe clean.
