GEC nailbreakers

Oh boy, I'm glad I saw this thread before making my first slip joint purchase. I was planing on a GEC #73 but I refuse to dread opening a knife when it's needed. What a shame, I thought I found my perfect slip joint.

Bleev3, I have two #73's and I find them smooth and easy to open. I would not hesitate to recommend that you try them. No resemblance to a nail breaker in my experience.

My 73 settled down quite a lot, or I figured out how best to open iit. It is one of my favorite knives. Don't be put off by this nail-breaker talk. In any case, it seems to only apply to early runs of this knife (~2007 iirc).

I have a #73 from '07 that's very easy to open. Both blades have very snappy springs, but they're definitely not nail-breakers.

If you don't buy a GEC Pattern #73 based on this thread you are just cutting your nose off to spite your face.:( Some of those knives have had stiff springs, especially, the early knives. The later knives have had reasonable springs.

Quit being wishy-washy, pull the trigger and get a GEC Pattern #73 or any other GEC but get a knife soon -- any brand slip joint -- but get one soon.

lol Modoc ED, good advice...now where's that trigger? Oh yeah it's melted to the inside of my wallet. lol
