GEC Price Guide?

exactly, just this afternoon a run of the mill 15 spear in ebony went for something ridiculous, compared to what they were offered at.

People are snatching up anything and everything GEC these days. It's getting crazy out there.

Save your money on a price guide. The market is too volatile right now. It would be outdated before it was released.

I really like the idea from @southriv and expanded by knifeswapper knifeswapper of a nice, glossy book (or at least with some glossies in it) with history, numbers, and trivia/minutia about each run. Why is it called that? Who wrote the info in the tube? When did tube tops go from handwritten to printed? When did a new machine come online and what sorts of changes did that create? Who decided to dig up a certain old pattern or modify it with a beard comb?

Patterns over five years old might have a “nit price” to “heavy user” price range, if they seem stable-ish. But the fun background stuff on weird knives is what would get me reading.

Just my take. Fun idea!

I think a historical book about the company, it's origins, founders, trademark history, factory/ MFG equipment, techniques etc. would be interesting, and along with that a comprehensive coverage of the models, SFO's and evolution of patterns produced in a timeline from start to today, a historical perspective/timeline of their rise to fame and glory of the premier producers of old school cutlery in the modern age. Such a book would be "priceless" ;)

GEC Secondary Price Guide: :D
If the model is still available on shelves... 120% of retail
Once the shelves are empty of that model... 200% of retail
After a year with no repeat on the model... 300% to 500% of retail

*This guide was created in fun and actual percentages were made up. :p
That pretty much sums up my impressions on the secondary market. I notice "retail" versus street price and not so sure of that when the knife is still available new (never owned) from GEC dealers. It would be a BIG itch for me to scratch at 500% retail.
