I've got the same problem with the Cattle Baron in this pic. It is absolutely my favorite pattern and I am dying to EDC it but I just can't get the main blade or the awl open without destroying my nails.
After hearing that GEC can sometimes fix the problem, I wrote them an email to ask what they recommend I do. That a was week or two ago and still no response. Hope I can get something figured out.
That being said, I have four other GEC made knives (including a Barlow) and all of them are stout but manageable.
