The GEC rendezvous is also on my bucket list, but it seems like by the time I finally make it out there, things will be even crazier than now with the camping which turns me off a bit. How many people typically have shown up in recent years?I’ve never been to a rendezvous, but with the recent advent of voracious GEC scalpers, I’m kind of turned off by what sounds like the mob “mad dash”
I think it would be amazing if GEC held a rendezvous of sorts where no new Knives were available for purchase - just a gathering of folks - chattin’ and trading among the attendees and GEC employees/enthusiasts. That might turn off the scalpers…![]()
The rendezvous is an event that’s on my bucket list. I’ll make it “one day”. I live close to the beach in South MS. I’m sure I’d pass a lot of members on the drive up to Titusville. Have always had this idea of picking up folks on the way up. Could end up being a great idea or we could end up arguing over the beard comb the whole time, who knows?![]()

I went to my first Rendezvous two years ago - showed up on Friday at about 5AM - I was #50 in line. I think the first 25-30 were able to get the Rendezvous special knife that year - it was a 38 Whittler and I wasn't all that interested in it so I wasn't too bummed out. I did get a nice SFA knife and a couple of knives off of a gentleman that had a table set up outside.
I thought about going last year, but just didn't feel like it once it came up. Not sure yet about this year, if I do go I guess I'll "camp out". More as a way to meet some folks and share some laughs than to get a Rendezvous Knife - although it would be nice to have the option after spending the night on the stoop.
Jack, you need a ride to the picnic?
Lord willing.
I went 2 years in a row before COVID. Once with a friend and once with my brother. We also stopped at the Case factory for a tour along the way. Neither one is a knife collector but both very much enjoyed themselves. Titusville is a nice town.
Why did GEC move off the Oil Festival celebration in August? I found all the other activities in the area to be very enjoyable. Car show, wine tour, outdoor vendors, street party and music.

Be nice to look around the factory, meet fellow enthusiasts, enjoying some food-beer, bourbon, wine. Maybe do some trades, as for queuing up all night and a frenzied stampede for a knife I might not like...no.
All academic, it's 6500 kms away and I won't fly. My own private yacht, love it but don't have one.....
I do enjoy the photos though, have a fine time you hear![]()
Would be interesting to hear some details. Just curious how GEC deals with scalpers in person.Although, I would have to say it was something watching Bill and William confront the scalper last year...
Woah.... How did you stop? With the engine by shifting gears down slowly or some other method? Some day perhaps, its the drive that really kills me. It almost did last year when the break cable went out halfway on the I-80 back.
I recall the first trip down we also visited the Queen Factory. No that was warm and also a bit depressing. Dark, low ceilings, old machines and the staff overall did not look happy. Its really hot in the factory and even hotter in the store in August...
That's what it's all about. Hey Eric , bring the knife or the picture. The rendezvous is what you make it. I go there exclusively to meet up with old and new friends, to chat and trade the day away, to catch up with Bill to see what's going on, and to basically relax. There are plenty of folks selling their wares outside and a pretty endless supply of GEC's in the company store. I have absolutely no interest in allowing my entire weekend to revolve around spending hours upon hours sitting in front of the building so I can snag a rendezvous knife.
