GEC Stag Issue

Post some pics of it after the soak. As Bob mentioned, I doubt there is anything GEC can do with a two year old knife at this point. Perhaps the dealer may work with you.

Edit: what Mike said.

What would you expect GEC to do? The last GEC 73 Single Blades were released in August 2011. The knife has been sitting in Dealer Stock for a minimum 1 1/2 years. Is this a Warranty issue?

I didn't realize suggesting he send a knife with a lifetime warranty to the manufacturer to correct a problem was so horrible and wrong. Return it to the dealer, then.

Why send it to the manufacture or dealer? Knives sometimes come through with minor flaws that are easily fixed (several suggestions posted above) or maybe can't be totally fixed but are easily lived with.

You might want to avoid expanding the stag on the knife in this thread because it's possible to expand it enough to cause excessive pressure on the pins thereby causing a split in the covers.

Probably the best fix is to just break the edge of the liners with a file or wet/dry sandpaper.

Good point Ed. No need to make the covers, liners, and spring all flush with one another. A few minutes with some wet/dry should make that knife comfortable enough to use. Won't even be able to tell the difference by looking at it.

If you want the knife, but not like it currently is - send it to GEC. If you want another of the same and send it to the dealer, the best thing that is going to happen is that you get another stag knife with the same issue (and will probably just get a refund). Generally if one in a run is pulled a little, they all have. If you send it to GEC and ask them to round it off a bit, they can knock off any sharp edges for you. If you don't want it rounded up, they can work out a refund with the dealer.

If you are going to use the knife, I think these other folks are giving good advice.

Not to mention that each piece of stag looks different from the next one. No guarantee that the replacement will look as good as the one you send in.
