I actually picked this up in person one year at the rendezvous in Titusville. It has been carried and used some, and has a nice patina settled in. It is indeed a factory second ("S" stamp on tang), but your guess is as good as mine as to why. There MAYBE a small hairline crack at one of the pins in the bone on one side, but its been fine for me since 2016. Funny story is I didnt even see the insert in the tube until getting it out for photos. To me this is a quintessential pocket knife pattern, and the red is a beaut.
