GEC Tidioute White Owl Equal End Ebony....WOW!!!!

Those Owls might be a knife I'd like. I always thought they were a bit longer. I've got a Northwoods Indian River single blade that looks similar in size. It's here on the top in this pic.

Just received my White Owl in ebony today. Nice and slim, this one will be a workhorse....but need to do a little dremmeling on the clip's kick as the tip of the blade sits slightly above the liners (caught my finger tip pretty good reaching for the knife in my pocket). It will be in the rotation with the 85, 76, and the 15 TC.

Not had raised tip on my Ebony Owl, but I did find the spine(back) of the pen blade to be very sharp, almost cutting edge :eek: Not pleasant when holding the knife with the Clip open, had to stone it a bit to round off the sharp feel.

LOL, we're gaining steam. Be a 'Cult of the Owl' post up before you know it. :)

It is absolutely one of the most well thought out knife designs I have ever seen. At least for my tastes.

Will, I agree, it is a thing of beauty & function, two blades on one spring & both straight.

I took some side by side pics of the White Owl next to my peanut and #54 moose

The blade on the owl seems thinner than it is, the swedge gives it that illusion , the tang is heavier stock than the tang on the #54 and if you put the blades back to back prior to the swedge the spear blades are the same thickness & blade length you don't loose much cutting edge between the Owl & Moose, I can see why you like this pattern so much Will, I think this one will see a lot if pocket time.

Well, that's just not right. Ouch! I hope you get it sorted out. Sorry about that.

Good thing it's so pretty. :) Thanks for the (more great) pictures.

It's not just the swedge; one of my favorite design features on the White Owl's spear main is what I call the "step down" from the tang to accomodate the pen, as seen in your picture here:

Here's a similar picture comparing the main blades of the White Owl and a single-bladed TC barlow:

A well-balanced design, indeed. ;)

I still enjoy browsing this thread: Who gives a hoot? I do. Let's see some White Owls (though sadly there are now a number of broken image links), which is current enough to warrant further contribution.

That's funny Sarah I call it the step down also, I would consider the first step the tang, and the second step prior to the swedge the true thickness of the blade, it's hard to tell from the pic but it is the same as the moose blade.

I'm a fan myself :) Keep meaning to get another one. It's just a hard working friendly thign to have around

I think this may be the next knife I buy from GEC but I'm really hung up on the Dead Skunk Acrylic. I don't have an Acrylic knife yet and I think the White Owl might be the one I get with it but this knife would be a user too so I'm kind of afraid that the Acrylic won't hold up well to use and probably doesn't look very good all scratched up. From what I have seen with the ebony scales the knife actually gets better looking with time so it's probably the smart choice. Ah decisions decisions! I've seen a couple in Primitive Bone that look fantastic as well.

The white owl is definitely on my short list of knives own. These photos are great!

mines a very deceptive buffalo bone FYI :) personal knives always look better to me all used and stuff, put I'm not familiar with the acrylic much.
