GEC vs "golden age" slipjoints

I really don't understand bemoaning (or even comparing) the two things. If you really want a fair comparison, you should compare the "golden-age" slipjoints to Kershaw, Benchmade, or Spyderco folders, as those are knives made to be used by people who need a daily knife. Slipjoints used to be made for people who needed a knife in their pocket; now they are made for people who like slipjoints.
Slip joints were and are made to be used by people who need a daily knife. As jackknife once said here our fathers and grandfather weren't underknifed. Those old slip joints (and new ones too) are just as applicable to daily use in our lives as they were to daily use in their lives.

And they are all I carry and use. But if you look at the people currently working in the fields, or construction, or what have you, they have modern folders in their pocket. My point wasn't that slippies CAN'T be daily users, but that when the "golden age" happened, they were the blue-collar choice for a daily user. Now they are not.

More people probably carry cheap Chinese junk than anything else. Many with onld USA-made names that only have the name in common with the old USA makers. It's what people find at the big box stores.

Maybe not wherever you are. In these parts they are.

i suppose this is my golden age of slipjoints. i moved on to good companies like GEC, Queen, Case. a step up from SAK and chinese/pakistani cheapos. Would like to check out schatt and morgan. I suppose as the old timers who worked for these great companies pass, we approach the twilight of this golden age tho. Their knowledge and experience in making those knives are what makes them stand out.
