GEC warranty, not original owner, and ebay seller issue.

So I bought a 23 beavertail single blade liner lock from an ebay seller with 100% feedback. Listing states the knife is perfect, new, never used, no blade play. The knife is beautiful and perfect in every way but one - the blade rocks when fully opened and locked. Definitely has much more than just an acceptable, barely perceptable bit of play. No side to side, it rocks and clicks loudly and the lock is clearly not fully engaged against the blade when open. This wasn’t cheap, full going price for “New” on the resale market. My first thought was just send it to GEC but I have no idea what to expect cost-wise to have this fixed as their warranty specifically states original purchaser only. Anyone have any experience with this kind of situation and know what I can expect as far as cost and turn around time goes, or have any suggestions?

the auction states no returns, but it was also incorrect in it’s description so I could probably return it anyhow, but I really like the knife.

You can return it to the ebay sellor for your money back, or you can send it to GEC and if you ask them nicely they will probably fix the issue for free, but it will take a few weeks as they have a backlog.

if the description is wrong open a claim to return it, you'll find another one, just be patient
this is probably the wrong forum to discuss another site, good luck

I wrote to the seller right away, waiting to hear back. My immediate impulse is to send it back because it isn’t what it was advertised to be ( perfect), but darn it, I really want to have this knife. I guess I’ll write to GEC and see what they say. Maybe the seller will cover any repair cost rather than deal with reselling for less because it has issues.

Yeah, I wan’t trying to bring up an ebay hate issue or out someone, just asking what you guys would do in the same situation and what I might be looking at if I tried to have it fixed by the factory.

I have sent two different GECs that I bought on the secondary market back to the factory for repair. The protocol was the same for both. Box it up securely and include a description of the problem and $15 to cover return shipping and be prepared to wait several weeks. Both times they were able to repair them and went the extra mile and gave each one the spa treatment. Here is the contact information:

Personally I would return to the bay seller. Even if they have “no returns” you can send it back if they didn’t disclose an issue.
After thinking on it a bit this is what I decided to do. Back on the hunt for a replacement now.

Good luck with your search! You might want to consider adding a “searching for” in your quote- I found a specific knife that way.
