I am pleased to announce I have some gemstone knife scales available for sale. The first is "Gemberry". This name because the stone reminds me of a field of blueberries seen from above. Mostly ripe with a few unripe (green ones) mixed in. The image below shows the first eleven pairs I have for sale. In the image the scales are wet. Wet so you can see what they will look like polished. The scales are cut 'bookmatched'. The pairs shown with the number above, sold as bookmatched pairs.
#1,2,3 are ~5" X 1.6" X .260 thick - $22 / pair
#4,5,6 are ~4" X 1.23" X 0.30" thick - $18 / pair
#7 is 2.96" X 1.56" X 0.30" - $18 / pair
#9 are ~3" X 1" X .3" - $16 / pair - #8 & #10 sold
#11 is 4.02" X .82" X 0.27" - $16 / pair
$5 shipping for one pair, buy two or more, I'll pay the freight. PM me for paypal details.
If you would like a pair trimmed, no charge. Custom sizes available. PM me for quote.
This gemstone is in very limited supply. I only have about 5-6 pounds of this material remaining. My vendor has no more.
When shaping and polishing gemstone scales DO NOT BREATH THE DUST. Always wear eye protection. Always.
Intuition may tell you gemstone scales are fragile. Not really. I'll start by saying that while they can break or chip, this is not normal. Drop them? Yeah, they may break. To get to where they are now the stones must go through many processes. The entire process from the origin to now these stones have been cut on and transported this way and that way until they reach these sizes and get to you. The process is long and rather violent. The expansion of the materials varies but all are similar to the metals used to make your knives. Finished gemstone knives are not 'dishwasher safe'. The thermal shock of the dishwasher MAY cause failure. It likely won't, but let's be safe! Enjoy!
