I've got a Gen 2 Combat Troodon up for sale over in Auto knives for sale by individual in great condition. The body is basically mint, the clip has some wear.

After swapping out my LUDT gen3 folder's shallow carry clip with an aftermarket dep carry clip, which makes the knife a lot better, I was thinking about the Troodon Gen 2 versus Gen 3 clip config.

Its basically the same story but in reverse- the Gen 2 has a nice tensioned deep carry clip from formed sheet steel that sits low and flat in your pocket and the knife never backs out when you sit down.

On the other hand, they opted to jazz up the Gen 3 clip with a milled clip version with a pressed ball, and secure it to the body in a shallow carry configuration. In my experience these make the knife more visible to others, and they are slightly more likely to back out of your pocket when you sit down.

I don't think that the Combat Troodon is well-suited for shallow carry- its a super solid blade that rips through utility tasks like packages etc, but there is also a large defensive role that it has potential for.

There is ALOT of blade and potential in your pocket when you carry one of these. IMO you want the deepest carry possible, and I think they nailed it on the GEN 2 model. (see my listing)

I always felt like I was carrying nothing with the Gen 2 deep carry clip, and was never worried that it would stand out carrying in public. I think its the right choice for the overall form factor of the Combat Troodon.

Do you have any experience carrying microtech's shallow carry clips? Did you swap them out for deep carry too?

I like the look of the new clips, I am just the kind of guy that favors function.
