Gen III Busse handles

black paper xxl NICK, black linen, xxl NICK, Desert ARK, SHSJ, CS DSJ stripped.

How'm I doin'? :)

xxl nick, nick, desert air rescue, baIII, stripped sj

the euro 4 doesn't have a choil like the baIII, the baIII's is perfectly round, where as the euro 4's is round from the blade to the ricasso, and then it slopes down at a lesser curve.

I would LOVE to be able to say the far right is a pauls hatchet, but you can see the start of the grind on it. can' be a stripped buffalo soldier, because those had a thumb groove at the ricasso. cant be a goove master for the same reason, the third one has to be a baIII because the pub defender doesn't have a pommel on it, and no other busse 3rd gen handled knife has the blade almost in line with the gaurd like that.

I'm going to say stripped satin jack because of the crosshatched satin on the pommell. I've seen that on a baIII before, but I don't beleive it was an LE of any sort. I would assume that on the le's the satin would be forced in one direction or that the crosshatched rough satin would be removed by bead blasting, but I'm not sure. unless it's a custom sj, like one of the ones with a band breaker on the top - but you could never tell that just from the photo, you'd have to be able to reference back to one of your previous posts about it.

also, all the xxl nicks were canvas micarta

pd has the little choil like the ba3.

the choil of the pd and ba3 are different because of where the blade starts, on the pd it's in the middle of the gaurd, more inline with the fingers, where as on the ba3 it's in line with the bottom of the gaurd. I always thought the ba3 was weird because of that.... I've never handled one, though I'm sure their awesome, it just always looked like it would be a little more prone to torqueing because of the taller blade with the edge so low.

Let me give it a try....

I want it....I want it...I need it....I should never have sold it.......and......this is a tuff one....I want it!

did I win?

:D

i would guess you are right except the second from the right is a ba3 rather than a sj

Actually... the first nick looks to have oiled black micarta grips... BAIII, huh? *pulls out ABA*... Sure, I guess it does look more like the choil on one. :)

LVC you basically got it.

Both the nicks are XXXL s.
The one on the left has been used a lot so the handles have changed color due to hand oil.

The stripped Desert SJ has the exact same handles as the Desert ARK. They just look darker because that too has been used a lot.

No one mentions any possibilty of a Hatchet?

When Jerry came up with that particular handle, it was His stated intent to hang six different blades on it, sort of part of the basic plan.

I remember when these were in the planning stage.

Even though it turns out not to be, it could have been.

Ok. answer is xxxl nick, xxxl nick, DARK, BAIII, DSJ (stripped, factory satin)

here is a pic of the blades excluding the xxxl nicks....

The BAIII and DARK both have Killer Asymmetrical edges

awesome brother!

thanks thats good to know
so the le ones were thin ?

there weren't really any "le" NICK's, because they it was a complete run of them only limited in number by the number of orders sent in. they were numbered up to a point and then they were just sent out with the logo. I tend to think of "limited runs" as being limited in numbers, like 300 or such.
