My new Gene Ingram drop point #1 arrived a couple of weeks ago to become my new small game skinning knife.

Yesterday I got the dogs out and was able to shoot 4 rabbits. I was in the middle of dressing one of them when I reached down to pick up my new knife, raised it up to make a cut, then had it magically snatched out of my hand. The extremely sharp D2 blade layed the palm of my hand wide open. A quick trip to the emergency room and 15 stitched later I was back to dressing rabbits.

The magic part turned out to be the rabbit I had dropped on top of the leather thong Gene attaches to the handle of his knives. I've never used a knife with a thong before and wasn't really paying much attention. Let this be a lesson to everyone: Don't stack stuff on top of your knife's thong or you'll slice your hand in half. Contrary to the subject of this post, I can't lay blame on anyone but myself.

Ouch, been there, done that. Meaty 2" gash with a mini-AFCK once across the palm. Nice, clean cut that healed over in less than a week with no stitches. Did take about a 1/2 hour using firm pressure to get it to stop bleeding though.

On to more positive things, Gene does build a hell of a knife, doesn't he? I have a Trapper, a 3" drop point with a couple more ordered and 2 1/2" drop point on the way. You hear people take about addicting knives, these certainly fit the bill.

No, I wasn't picking it up by the blade, just not paying enough attention. I had a loose grip on it and my index finger slipped right over guard.

This is my first custom knife and I'm amazed that I can get something that nice for the price. I'm anxious to see hows it holds an edge considering that it is made of very hard D2, which was the primary reason I bought it.
