Until recently I've been carrying a John McColl drop point damascus hunter in the field. I've just started carrying a Tom Mayo Talonite hunter and I'll try my Spyderco Moran too. When my Allen Blade Field Patrol arrives that might be my preferred carry.
I tend to carry one fixed blade of 4" to 6" and a SAK lockback. Not much else needed in this region.
Machetes are great for clearing undergrowth if I'm dragged into helping out on projects, an axe would always be my choice in winter and woodland. But I prefer to travel lighter than that if possible, especially when hiking and backpacking.
I find the usual knife chores are food preparation, cutting cord and string, sharpening sticks, trimming wood for fires and tools and otherwise just as entertainment
