Anyone have any experience / thoughts on those knife making kits? After a lifetime of collecting I think I would like to try my hand at making a traditional style folder. I know these kits are simply "putting together" as opposed to actually making but it seems like it may be a simple way to get started and have something to carry that has a bit of a personal stamp feel to it.

USA Knife Maker.com has some very good kits available from traditional slip joints to modern frame locks. Good quality all the way through as well. Ive seen ppl buy the kits put them together then sell them for 4x what they paid

Rough Rider makes several traditional slipjoint kits. Try searching Goggle and you will find them.

I you like handwork I think the kits would be fun. I was interested in assembling a folder kit, until I found that I could buy a pretty good factory knife for less money.

However I have bought various blade blanks and skeleton knives and put my own scales on them. There is a lot of handwork in one of these with the drilling, epoxy, grinding and sanding.
