I am constantly amazed and humbled by the generosity displayed here. We were out most of the day yesterday but when we returned, there was a nice package from 1066vik waiting. As many know, my son is currently in USMC OCS. He is half done with his first six week stint and goes back in a couple of years for his second. Upon completion of both and upon graduation from college, he will be commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Marines. He turned 20 at Quantico this past week and reports he is very much enjoying his time there. Land navigation exercises, fire team attack exercises - he's getting time in the woods with firearms and maps. Switch the M16 for traditional archery gear and you've got a party!
Here are a couple of pics of him from last night (I think this is as close to a smile as he is currently permitted) :
1066vik, in a fit of intense generosity sent this beautiful (not to mention wildly cool) unused Effingham era Ek Bowie for him:
I mentioned to Dylan that "something cool" just came in the mail for him but we haven't yet told him what it was. Will post more pics in a few weeks when we turn this sweet blade over to him. Once again, thank you, Erik for the outstanding gift. I'm eager to hand it to him from you.
