I am constantly amazed and humbled by the generosity displayed here. We were out most of the day yesterday but when we returned, there was a nice package from 1066vik waiting. As many know, my son is currently in USMC OCS. He is half done with his first six week stint and goes back in a couple of years for his second. Upon completion of both and upon graduation from college, he will be commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Marines. He turned 20 at Quantico this past week and reports he is very much enjoying his time there. Land navigation exercises, fire team attack exercises - he's getting time in the woods with firearms and maps. Switch the M16 for traditional archery gear and you've got a party!

Here are a couple of pics of him from last night (I think this is as close to a smile as he is currently permitted) :

1066vik, in a fit of intense generosity sent this beautiful (not to mention wildly cool) unused Effingham era Ek Bowie for him:

I mentioned to Dylan that "something cool" just came in the mail for him but we haven't yet told him what it was. Will post more pics in a few weeks when we turn this sweet blade over to him. Once again, thank you, Erik for the outstanding gift. I'm eager to hand it to him from you.

I am also amazed at the generosity that goes on around here. Tell your son I said thank you for his service when you next see him. Good stuff 1066vik. That's very generous of you, and a cool blade.

good stuff vik! wish your son a happy birthday and thank him for his service as well

Congrats again to you and your family Gingi!

I too can't believe how kind people are here. When I thought there might be some trouble getting that BK10, not one, not two, not even three or four, but five, count 'em FIVE different people contacted me to make sure it happened and I got that BK10. The Moose, the mods, Kabar, no one knew that was going to happen. Just a ton, an absolute ton, of kindness and generosity here.

I wish DB was here to see it.

That is cool as hell! Thats a fine tool for an Infantryman.
Congrats to you for having a man for a son! He will always have a can do attitude. This will help him out a lot later on in life, the job market is tough, and having some military in your back ground doesn't hurt at all!

That's awesome. He'll definitely have an unique knife to carry. Those Ek knives are really sweet blades. They just have "the look". Hard to describe what I mean, but they just demand to be used. The cord handles, the micarta scales, the wood scales, all of them are just great. I really regret not buying some of them while they were still in production.

Thank him for his service!

Wow. Well done Vik.

GK, we all wish your boy the best.

Vik, VERY generous of you! The generosity here is leaps and bounds above all other net spots I've been too. Gingi congrats and wish your son luck for us! Semper fi!

1066vik is one of the good ones, no doubt.

I have a Buck 110 on loan from him as we speak. He's letting me check it out, since I've never owned one.

I've been writing Dylan daily and will pass your messages of thanks and congratulations and so forth to him promptly. I was on Skype with my mom and pointed her to this thread. She said, "Now, that made me tear up. How cool! What great people!!! Almost makes me want to buy a knife!!"

Of course my reply was, "lol - for you, i recommend a nice Becker BK5 - makes a great kitchen knife".

... and we are right back on the Becker topic. Oh yeah! :D

good to see that it arrived - thanks for posting up the pics.
You and your son are very welcome -- tell him it's a "thank you" for his service from an old gunner (not gunny - GMG3 USN-R 85-91)

You got it. He's becoming quite well aware of gunnys at the moment. :D
