Gentleman's Buck at work - hostile???

How were you using your knife that day, when the HR person saw you? If you were peeling an orange or cutting an apple into slices, with your lunch, I don't see any problem. Apparently, the HR person is of the opinion that there's nothing to be accomplished in your office workplace, with a knife, but violence. I cannot fathom what you were doing with your Model 513 that would have led the HR administrator to immediately jump to calling it a "weapon."

Buckaholic, is the model 513 the top one, in your photo?

Hey GeoThorn...
Yep, that's the one.
I would never take any knife out at the workplace over 2.5 inches. That seems to be the reason of limit. This blade is 2 3/8". Just under 2 and a half inches.

In Calif you can carry a swtichblade under 2.5 inches.* But any employer can determine what is permitted on their premise. I work mostly in an office environment and, even though a pair of scissors can be found in about every desk, it just wouldn't be "politically correct", or smart, to bring out an auto even if it was under 2 and a half or a 110.
The best weapon, I mean "tool", is confidence and discretion.

So, anyway, I posted that cause I was just searching for threads related to the knives I have and thought it a hoot that anyone would have a problem with this model. It is a great piece of Buck history and a beautiful little knife.

I often carry my Mayo TNT or Sirus to work but make sure I only take them out at my desk where certain people can't see. ;)
Yep. That would be me now with my Sirus too  ;)

Thanks Goose. That sure is a pretty knife.

(Like all discontinued Buck products, I wonder exactly why the 513 got the axe. But, "collectors" have different tastes than ordinary folk. ;))

How about that One-Armed Bandit, though...? ;) A 2 3/8" blade without the O-AB would seem more PC...but, at least it isn't in a "Quick Draw" holster!

(Sheeple....)

LOL...that would be a hoot!!! A quick draw holster for the 513!!!!! TFF!!!!
The full size knives in that pic have the OAB installed for EDC (put a drop of clear contact cement in the thread hole to keep the set together). The Bandit on the 513 was just for the photo op :D I keep that in it's original presentation/gift box and take it out, now and then, to clean out my toe jam :barf:

"Why do you carry a knife?" Asked Mr. Badge to Mr. Goose.
Replied Mr. Goose, "Because they don't jam and you don't have to reload".

I suspect that the man you spoke with was a Sikh. Sikhs carry knives, never concealed, as a badge of their faith. It symbolizes their readiness to defend their faith at any time.

I have felt, since I was very young, that my family owed a dept to the Sikhs because of a story that my Grandfather, R.W. Starr, told of his encounter with three Sikhs at Passchendaele, during World War I. My Granddad was a signalman, line runner. This was a really dangerous job. He spent his days tracing phone lines to insure that communications were maintained no matter where they lead. This meant that he was often out of the trenches, exposed. He would not let anything bad ever be said about members of the Sikh faith because he was once trapped between the front lines, in No-man’s-land and three Sikh’s left the safety of their trench to come to his aid. They got out to him but could not get back to our trenches. The four of them spent four days in a shell hole and he swore that he never would have survived without those Sikhs looking out for him.

I guess we are all God’s Children one way or another.
That's a great story Will, thanks! It's times like those that your grandfather told you about that remind us that we get into trouble when we make blind assumptions about an entire group of people.

You should really be more careful, Goose!

A Buck model 513 with a One-Armed Bandit and in a Quick Draw holster! Someone would think that you want to scare a bunch of envelopes, or, you really want to get all of your tax forms opened, filled-out, and returned! ;)

Hey Thorny...

Yeah, I would tell the HR person that my left hand is disabled and need the assist.
Surprised no one asked why the extra rivet in the one sheath...or maybe they figured it out(?).
