Gentleman's folder as gift - smaller than Sage bigger than DFly???

I'm looking for a gentleman's folder to give as a gift. I was thinking Sage 1 (one of my faves), but that's too big for what I'm thinking. My next thought was a G10 Dragonfly (another of my faves) but that is too small.

I saw the Urban Leaf, which looks just about right in terms of size and quality as a nice gentleman's folder gift, but just can't get over the lack of a lock. Not that the lock is critically important, but I just prefer having a lock for obvious reasons.

It seems that there is a bit of a hole in the Spyderco line up... a nice quality 2.5" FFG blade with G10 scales, lockback or liner lock. Or am I overlooking just the model I'm looking for?

Any suggestions?

SAL... anything in the works with 2.5" VG-10 FFG blade, G10 or CF scales, Japanese/Taiwan build quality? Perhaps around $60-70 ish?

you might want to snag a cat or chicago before they dry up. also a good traditional slip joint would do the job, case peanut perhaps.

Find a nice Kopa - many nice flavors to choose from. I have the colorful stacked wood version and really like it.

If you can find someone who has one in stock, the Cat seems like a good choice - basically a smaller version of the CF Sage.

Check out the Spyderco Michael Walker CF ZDP-189. It's very much a gentleman's EDC with smooth CF scales and a nice ZDP-189 blade for under $120 so it's not too expensive to safe queen it. It's an attractive, smaller blade that is very light. There is only a liner on the lock bar side.

EDIT

Nevermind, didnt notice the OP wanted to gift a Taiwan model. :o

Caly 3?

I bit more expensive, but I really can't recommend the CF/ZDP version enough. Really classy.

5.56... Seki-City, Golden, or Taiwan would be fine.

Reeek... the Michael Walker sprint run is quite a bit more money than I want to spend on this gift.

Freedoom and dinozzo.... I just looked at the leafstorm... nice, but OUCH on the price. ;)

BoxANT... I looked at the Caly 3... nice knife, but it's no smaller than the Sage... perhaps little longer than the Sage.... and more money.

Revdevil... the Centofante is bigger than a Sage...

I wish the Urban Leaf came in a lockback version... that seems like that would perfectly fill the bill for me!

I'm really looking for something somewhat bigger than the Dragonfly... but smaller than the Sage... blade length of around 2.5" or so, and significantly less than $100 street price... perhaps around $60-$70.

The Cat is pretty much exactly what I'm looking for to gift to my friend... so I decided to try to find one (they are discontinued and stocks are drying up). I'm hoping the website I ordered from is current with stock status. C

Hopefully Sal will be putting together a re-born Cat model which meets great quality standards and is priced well for both Spyderco and the customer... I think the Cat fills a really important niche between the tiny knives and the 3+ inchers.

You can probably get a squash bone or blue bone Kopa in your price range. I don't know that the build quality can be beat. They are all true beauties. Failing that, wait for the upcoming Balance.

Great choice on the Cat:thumbup: Got 2 today and fit and finish on mine is great (had my dealer inspect them before shipping:D)

So far I've seen plenty if good suggestions that will fit the bill. The D'fly is your best bet at this point. It really do not think that it is too small. It's your call, look through the Spyderco catalog and see what grabs your attention.
As for the Cat, it may be quite some time before we see that again. The blade is almost the same size as that of the D'Fly. Good luck in your search.

RedDevil... I agree that the G10 D'fly is a superb choice. I am so impressed with mine! For this gift, though, I just would like something with a tad more handle and a tad more blade... but not as large as Sage, however. I'm thinking (and hoping) that the Cat hits that sweet spot right between the great D'fly and the revered Sage. I've got two Cats inbound, so by week's end I should know if the Cat hits the spot! ;)
