Gentleman's Folder

My favorite 'dress' knife is my BenchMade HK29 model 14210. Its a super looker, perfect size and the lock is second to none and also ambi by design. Priced at $106 plus shipping from Newgraham its a good deal in a strong locking reliable gents folder.

I like this one too. My only complaint is that the G10 is a little too smooth for me. All in all, however, this is a great knife....great size and quality materials and construction.

:)

Guys, I appreciate the help. Forgot to say "no linerlocks"! Decided on a WH Lancet ($300). It's a little smaller than I wanted (and I could have had a larger WH) but I like the steel (ZDP189) and the weight (1.1 oz, I think). May go w/ another WH sometime but will also try the Mnandi and, if I'm lucky, an Umfaan. The Opportunist may also get the call.

Edited to say: Opportunist is LL - won't try that one!

Man, there sure is a bias against liner locks. I wonder how much of it is justified. I can't help but believe that folks read a negative post about liner locks and then begin posting similar comments without having had a bad experience themselves.

(An example: tons of folks rave about how they love the Spyderco Military....next thing you know they are knocking liner locks ... then they're right back recommending the Military. This baffles me a bit.)

I personally like them. Yes, they can fail but so can any lock.

:)

Sorry to arrive so late.....:o
I vote for the CRK Mnandi....I love mine!

Ditto -- it's a coveralls workin' knife in a suit 'n' tie.

He said he already decided on a WH Lancet. I have missed what people have bought too. I just thought you might want to know.

I know its bigger than you want, but I use the Benchmade 940 as a gents knife. Sleek, light, elegant. I forget its there.

I know he's made up his mind but I have to bring up the Case "Slim lock" in BG42 or Damascus stainless (?). It is as beautiful a small knife as I've seen. I don't carry mine because it's something I thought I wanted, but found out I am more a Spyderco, Mcusta type guy.3.25 inches or so is my comfort level for my blade when possible, though I can go down to 2.75 or so. Another nice small carry knife I have is the TK 4 with the 3G laminated steel. Very nice, but begging for a 3.25 inch blade. The steel, and geometry make these superb cutting gentlemans type folders that can hold their own with any others on the market. Joe

I use a Lone Wolf City Knife. I think it fits the bill for you

Thanks again, folks. All your ideas will get considered the next time I get the buying urge. I already have some of what you suggested (e.g., BM940).

I don't like liner locks as much for their feel and looks as anything else. I must admit that my Buck Strider 882 SBGT, tanky looking and Paul Bos treated ats-34 though it is has a truly wimpy looking liner which makes me wonder about its strength. I'm not going to whack it or otherwise try to make it fail but its presence on that knife offends me. Perhaps it's an unreasoned prejudice.
