GENTS KNIFE BLADE LENGTH? Comments?

Hey Darrel!
I don't carry a "gentleman's" knife. Heck, I
can't recall anyone who ever called me a gentleman. My interpretation of a Gent's Knife is that it should be small and classy.
The knife should be showy without taking the masculinity out of the design. The knife should have the ability to be carried while at "high class" functions.
The blade length that i prefer would be 3" or so. Hope this helps.

I think a gentleman's knife should be 3 inches or less. How much less depends on the man. I am a large man, and am still seeking a "favorite" gents knife. I tried a Reeve Umfaan, but it was just too small for my hand. Right now, a 2 7/8" blade seems to be the best.

What's also important (to me) is how a gent's knife is designed to be carried. I prefer a pocket clip, would like to see more clips designed for this particular purpose; i.e., clip carry in a dark suit. Perhaps a blued damascus clip (& bolster) would do the job. Traditional "steel" clips and bolsters are just too noticeable in dark suits. If you carry a gentleman's knife, I think it should be more subdued.

My preferance is 2.25 to 2.5 inches of usuable edge. After checking a few that 2 7/8
overall blade length hits the mark for me.

while I prefer 3 1/2-4", here in NJ 3" is better for a using knife so it doesnt raise eyebrows. Of course I always have a bigger one with me but that's none of their business

i would generally go for 3" or so. my favorite is the spyderco micarta jess horn, that's a little more but it has the look. i also agreee on the clips, but sometimes i just take them off for "black tie" events.

I believe a "gents" knife should just fall in the bottom of the pocket. I measured a few
from my collection and the blade length seems
to be 2 5/8"- 3". These are customs with nail nicks, bolsters and pearl, ivory, stag.

I would love to see what you come up with , Ralph.

I agree with Gus on the size. Btw take a look at the VB Mini UDT I think it is just the right size. I would also like a clip on it so it can be used as a money clip.

I have to go along with gus as well. My gents folders are all under 3" in a single clip point, a micro stockman and a micro stockman, all are currently sold out not even any pics. But, I mainly do them with pearl and mokume.

If a clip is being considered, a removable one and something to cover the holes would be nice. Personally, a gents knife is for dressier occasions clipping a knife to a pair of dress pants would not be an option I would consider.

Gotta agree with Popeye. Length of blade is right. My preference would be a 440v steel. What about white micarta or ivory slabs topped off with a removable clip? A thin profile that has quality steel is hard to beat for a Gentlemen's knife. I've been looking for one just like this one.

Size doesn't matter as long as their elegant and legal and sit's well in your pocket and when you pull it out other people's mouthes drop open WHERE DID YOU GET THAT ,I WANT ONE TOO .
