Gent's knife in carbon steel?

BTW, carbon steel = CV.
Thanks. I did a quick search last night to learn about CV and came up with this http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-364059.html
STR's quote from Mike Stewart sumarizes it well.

Too bad they don't offer the Eisenhower in carbon/CV. I really like that little pattern.

There just doesn't seem to be a carbon steel senator/equal-end knife anywhere in current production. That carbon steel Half-Whittler is close...

In the meantime though, I've found several other knives to order. :D That always happens...

A queen mini trapper in 1095 is a great choice. Ive got two and both came with great edges and solid fit and finish. At about $50, they are excellent users.

Bob W,

Perhaps you may want consider an equal end sleeveboard, senator or any of your other possible pattern choices in a vintage out of production slippy on ebay. For example, I just recently purchased one of those multi-knife auctions for about the cost of three burger joint lunches. I got 28 old knives and in the mix I found several old Camullis, Case and Schrade equal end patterns circa 1930's-1950's era with good old carbon steel. All have two blades and one backspring in old cutler style. All were in great shape with a some good honest use but very serviceable with lots of blade left and terrific snaps.

Just a thought is all.. For me there is just something about edc'n vintage knives..

However, I must say that I do like my Northwoods Senator just like the other fellows here have commented. This one is dressed in Mammoth Ivory

Where can I find a dealer for those Northwoods senators? They look great, but don't know if I want to pay the premium for mammoth. I can't find anything about them on Northwoods' own website either.

The Northwoods steel is the same as the beautiful Queen pearl senator. If I have to compromise on the steel I want, I'll probably buy the Queen.

I've also been browsing the resale dealers for a carbon steel vintage knife, and scoping out the current eBay offerings.

Thanks everyone,
-Bob

I'm under the impression that they do not make the Senators anymore, Bob.

Their two blade congress is awfully nice, though!

Take a look at bull dog brand, fightn rooster, or eye brand. They all make alot of offerings in carbon steel
Here's what I've found so far:

Here's a Robeson I really like, only in stainless though. I ordered one anyway, for "lookin' at".

Here's a Bulldog Brand pen knife. Perfect pattern and beautiful handles. But stainless-only.

Hen and Rooster has some products in carbon, and a three-blade whittler that's appears to be an equal-end. But it's offered in stainless only.

Queen Senators, stainless only.
Schatt and Morgan, some nice senators, but stainless only (anyone else think they are grossly overpriced for 440A and 420 stainless?)
The Boker Apaloosa knives come with carbon steel blades, but the series doesn't include a senator or any equal-end pattern.

Still looking, and sending out some e-mails.

I like the appearance of the Eisenhower pattern, but the blades don't fit together neatly like a small Queen.

All or most of the recent Bulldog brand knives (2005+ I think) are some kind of carbon steel. Bulldog doesn't really have a home that I can find, but you can find a bunch on eBay with a variety of celluloid handles.

Eye Brand are all carbon steel. I don't recall if they have any models quite like what you are looking for, but they all look nice (to me).

Canal Street Cutlery mostly uses crummy 420, but they do have this fancy little knife with an A2 blade (good stuff):

Cumberland Knife Works has some Queen Canoes with 1095:

It is too hefty to call a gent's knife, but they look REALLY nice. They do have a small trapper too. I am guessing they are special orders?

In addition to Case's new red CV knives, they have a temporary run of "Red Barn Board" with 154cm blades. Stainless, but good stuff.

Also, if it has not already been mentioned, I just saw a few Case "Bonestag" models with CV blades on eBay.

I'm looking into all of those. Thank you sincerely.

I actually have one of those already, and it is very good quality.

Moore Maker does use carbon steel, but their only equal end pattern is a giant trapper.

I've been searching through the other brands, but haven't come up with anything. I think my best bet eventually will be to find a slightly used vintage carbon knife.

I like equal-end and sleeveboards too, and I also find the selection lacking.

What about a laguiole?
you can find loads in carbon, lot of different handle materials and they're really elegant :)
have a look for
fontenille pataud
forge de laguiole
laguiole de l'artisan
laguiole en aubrac

or a classic spanish navaja?

good luck
