I have just joined this forum and it has already been hard on my pocketbook.

I am looking for a good gent's knife with a pocket clip infor under $125 and have narrowed my choices to a Kershaw Splinter with the quince wood handle (AUS8A) and the Seki-Cut Little Encounter with cocobolo handles (VG-10).

Does anyone have any thoughts or recommendations about these two knives? Do you think there are better options out there of equal or better quality (or aesthetics)?

How about a Mcusta Gentleman's Folder with cocobolo and damascus for about $130?

Of the two you are looking at, I would avoid the AUS8 knife. I've not had very good service from AUS8.:(

I have the Splinter - with aluminum scales - and it's one of the prettiest little knives I own.
Made in Japan with extraordinary fit and finish and a razor sharp edge that easily shaves hair.

AUS 8 is fine with me for a gentleman's folder.

And, you can find the Splinter in Quince for a whole lot less than $125 if you look around just a bit. The Seki Cut commands a premium price because of its scarcity.

Either way, enjoy. :)

You might look at the Kershaw Nakamura (vg-10 steel, very sharp stuff); the Mcusta seems to be a very nice choice as well, gets a lot of good reviews. If you can find one for a reasonable price (and it is possible), a BM 690 is a great knife. The 690 is hands down one of the nicest gent style folders I've ever carried, and it is also a very sturdy and capable blade. Another BM that makes a great EDC is the 707, great little knife. You might also check some of the knives made by Moki. There is also the possibility of an SG-2 Leek, would probably cost less than the ZDP version. Lots of great choices out there, have fun looking :)

Well -- here is my gents knife--traditional but--a gents knife, 3"toothpick

Wow...you have taken me in a totally different direction. Now I am leaning towards the Kopa or the Nakamura...I guess I really can't go too far wrong with either, and I will probably eventually wind up with both.

That's what happens when you ask the "Which knife should I get?" question around here.

Its a very dangerous (to one's wallet) thing to do.

As you can see. lots of great choices. You cant go wrong with any of the above recommendations, so go with what you like most.--I'm partial to Moki for gents knives. They are very well made knives; a step above most of the knives in their price range.

What about a benchmade 771-01? Its been discontinued, but you can probably find it somewhere and that red and black pattern is pretty sweet. And of course it has 154cm and AXIS.

Definitely stay away from anything William Henry. It's the worst form of Knife Crack in existence. I bought one from AG Russell, G10 and ATS34, for about $140. I now have 7 W/H's. My B09P (Kestral in MOP) is my favorite knife of them all.
