I'm looking to get a knife for my father for his birthday in a few weeks. He's a doctor so I'm thinking of getting a Gent's style knife for him to carry around.

Here are ones I've been thinking of. I'd like to keep this around $100 or less.

Kershaw Damascus Leek/Scallion/Chive/Shallot/Skyline...
BM Mini-Dejavoo
Kershaw Nakamura (a bit pricey)
Kershaw RAM or Groove with custom wooden scales
Spyderco Kopa

Some other options would be a nice slipjoint or is there any chance I could get a small custom/semi-custom folder for that price? Thanks.

Check out the Mcustas at www.yourcornerstore.com

They have some killer deals on them and the Mcusta is a fine slightly more than gentlemen's knife! I'm carrying one right now.

Check out these deals.

You can get the MC-15 with the white Corian scales for under $84
You can get the MC-11 with the green/black Micarta for under $70

And others too.

I'm partial to slipjoints so I would say follow markksr link to Shepherd Hills. Since he is a doctor, look at the doctor pattern knives. Get one with the spatula. Be sure and explain the history of the pattern to him.

Doctor you say?

I'd say you know your Pop's style best... I would consider what he would CARRY, and make that the highest priority... Maybe it's as simple as a Victorinox Farmer. My Pops was seriously eyeballing the Mini Griptilian I got my bro, so I know what to get him for X-mas! No gents folder my any means.. but it is small. A nice Case Canoe could be just what the "Dr. ordered." I've spotted a Spyderco on an executive "in suit" at work before. The UK Pen Knife could be great... but it's kinda -sorta- tactical looking.

Take a look at the Al Mar Falcon... Looks really nice and simple. Love the single screwed clip.. There is a drop point OR a Spear w/ swedge. Nice knife! Nutnfancy has a review of the Al Mar Eagle on youtube.

I love the look of the Kopa. I don't have one though so I can't speak to it directly. The Spyderco Kiwi is another smallish classy looking knife, that is a big cutter. I have one in amber jigged bone and I think it's a great gent's knife. Still, I'd probably go for the Kopa.

Kopa. It's stylish and very functional. ;) (Or as mentioned above, the Kiwi would work great)

CASE Mini Copperlock is a slim pocket friendly traditional lockback. Very useful with formal attire too...
Or CASE Slimline Trapper another pocket friend that shouts elegance.

MOKI (Japan) make some very decent slim lockbacks but they are a bit more expensive.Good though.

Got the kopa in gold pearl for my brother in law who is a dentist. He really likes the knife and he is a non knife knut.

I have a red bone and a jigged bone Kiwi; they're a a nice gent's knife. Also just got a Kershaw Splinter. Very dress, maybe a little large for gent. There seem to be a lot of them popping up on e-Bay.

Does anybody have any experience (+ or -) on the Nemesis IMP?
I noticed them on line and am interested. Love those linerlock Wharncliffe blades!

How about a Kershaw Double Cross under a hundred. AUS6 blade steel, liner lock, thumb stud and a traditional look.

A few options:

- A nice damascus Mcusta, here for a fraction less than $100. Very smooth!
- A spyderco kiwi
These were already mentioned.
There is also a Nontron for sheer originality

I love all above but there is one other knife that I'd prefer as a splendid "gentle" gift: a real good French Laguiole with Sandvik 12C27 blade. Timeless design and really good quality if you buy from the top brands such as "Forge de Laguiole", "Fontenille-Pataud", "Laguiole en Aubrac" (the brand of my Laguiole, but probalby over $100), "Robert David" and a few others.
These are superbly elegant and universal knives, a perfect gift for people with taste.

Thanks for the recommendations. I always thought that Mcustas were far more expensive and they definitely have some excellent pieces around $100. I also like the damascus Case's and Laguioles.
