Gent's knife

For the Mcustas that come with the "decorative woven Nishijin pouch", do those still have pocket clips?

Well, I have the lllloooovvvvelllly MC75D "Take" with Staminawood handles and pouch, and this superb model doesn't come with a clip. In fact none of the knives in the MC7 "classic wood/damascus" series has a clip. Strangely, the MC5 series of Gentlemen folders do come with a clip, while I find a knife clip (except perhaps the one on the Mnandi) not very gentleman-like...

I don't think so. I own six Mcustas and my experience is if they come with a pouch they are sans the pocket clip. I will say the Mcustas ride lower than any knife I have ever owned. They also have skeletal pocket clips which makes them much less obvious to wear. The other low riders I have are the Seki-Cut Bob Lum Encounters and the Spydercos with the wire clip.

The Mcustas and the Seki-Cut Bob Lums are clearly my favorite knives right now. They are so well made and so functional! Although I really enjoy my high end Spyderco's too.

I have the exact same problem as the Op, except insert Christmas instead of Birthday.... I think I might get him a Skyline, but then again I'm still in college. Were I out of school and employed (read: not buying the knife with money that was probably his at some point), I would opt for a more expensive, nicer knife. I don't know what your dad likes, but mine is partial to small knives. In the office, where most doctors reside for 8-14 hours a day, there aren't usually many heavy cutting task (that one would use a pocket knife for anyway). With this in mind, I would suggest the possibility of a small decorative knife. Case makes some really pretty damascus and Dyed bone-handle knives. My dad loved his before he lost it. Just a thought.

Option 2: For something larger with better blade steel, you could get him a Browning Ice storm.... in fact you could probably get him 3 for your budget. I'd stay away from the ugly maroon colored ones and opt for the classy "Old Gold".

Alright how's this for a birthday gift to my father! Courtesy of Gary W. Graley! Thanks

I would have said one of the smaller ones from Mcusta, Al Mar or Paul (Lone Wolf) - although most of these are going to be over your $100 limit.

At the other end are CRKT's Fulcrum and GlideLock which also fall into the Gentleman's knife category

man I LOVE raindrop damascus! Personally, I'm not a fan of the peanut, but THAT one is dang nice!

I decided to upgrade my dad's Christmas present Because of this thread. I just ordered a Queen cutlery mini-hunter in D2 with Birdseye maple handle. Hopefully he will like it.
