Big Dave -- remember your mantra a while back? Self control, self control, self control? That was pretty funny and maybe a bit too on the mark. Reading the suggestions on this thread just revisits the fact that a lot of guys are making great knives, making this an expensive hobby.
When faced with so many ways to drain your bank account, I think the thing to do is to become a very picky bastard. Split hairs. Over analyze. More than the money, what scares me is the amount of time I have to put in to keep up with the expertise that is shared here.

Some of the suggestions above have considerable merit. I believe, however, that I have a knife which will be head and shoulders above the ones mentioned.
It is a custom by Kit Carson; basically a #16 long, but with narrower c-fiber scales. It has a partial length inlaid Ti liner lock, a Ti clip, and a Stellite blade, of slightly over 4".
Despite the Stellite blade, denser than steel, being almost completely forward of the pivot point when the blade is open, and nothing but c-fiber and two small pieces of Ti behind the pivot point, the knife balances AT the pivot point.
It goes nicely with my tuxedo. The name is Bond.......James Bond.

Watch this thread for future developments; Darrel Ralph is making me a Stellite folder as well. Perhaps for my other tux.

After reviewing the threads on Talonite/Stellite, will definitely be looking forward to the latest developments in Manhattan Project II: The Folder. Starring Bond (Walt), his beguiling female antagonist (DC) and the evil mad scientist (Darrel).

Talonite knives made by Kit or Darrel, that sounds too good to be true.
But while we're discussing folders with more conventional blades (and more conventional prices I'd imagine
), let me throw in another vote for Joel Chamblin. His fit & finish are outstanding, and he understands how to grind a high-performance edge. He continues to be one of the most underrated and undervalued knifemakers going, period. Do not even *think* about a gent's tactical without at least looking at Joel's work.

I got the Carson Small M16 from Les. It's got 440V and weighs 3.4 oz. Very cool knife. But may be a little large to be considered a gents size (whatever that is.)
How bout looking at a 3" model 16 with c-fiber scales. It would be very light. The weight of the 4" m16 with c-fiber is around 2.5 oz. I suck in math but I think that would give you a 1.85 oz. knife.

I've been spending my discretionary income elsewhere: the aforementioned digital camera, plus some clothing from Willis & Geiger. Sadly, W&G, outfitters to Teddy Roosevelt, Charles Lindbergh, Jimmy Doolittle and Edmund Hillary among others, are closing their doors after 92 years. If you're not familiar with them, they make exceptional outdoor and travel clothing, refined over decades, that will probably not be seen again. Good stuff for knife nuts as they have pockets all over the place.
But I digress -- I think a Sebenza is in my future.
