I made a decision some time ago to more or less vegitate and be a lookie loo, rather than post threads of new pieces. Much of that decision had to do with achieving a greater degree of collection privacy . Now and then, however, I find something that's not really oriented to my collections, but that I've always been on the lookout for - or a piece by a maker whose work deserves the attention. This particular knife thread is all about the former, though I anticipate I'll soon start a thread concerning the latter.

George Herron has always been one of my absolute favorite makers, particularly with respect to his fighters. I'd been on the lookout for a particular model for years, but luck and timing never coincided. They tend to be hard to find and seldom seen/available. I remember Peter Gill's thread from a couple of years ago, who was lucky and timely enough to grab an exceptional deal from the Nordic site, a Herron stag model 12, one many of us would have grabbed immediately had we been fast enough.

To make a long story a little longer, once a day I check out Ebay for new listings. At one time, quality could be found on Ebay, but for many years now, just overpriced, condition-issue pieces. Mostly junk. But it became a habit. A few days ago, that 15 minute morning Ebay listing exercise paid off. I'd wanted a Herron model 12 forever and nailed one. Thanks go out to Jay Mealing, whose Herron thread did it's job and kept me hungry for one. An as-new piece, circa 1978-84 (lines on blade just poor photography):
