George Herron passed on early this morning. I can't think good right now. He was like a father to me. What a great man.

How terribly sad. Truly one of the GREAT makers. I will offer my prayers for his family.

Very sad news indeed and a great loss to the knife community. Thoghts and prayers for his family.

This makes me very sad. My first real custom knife was a Herron fighter purchased in 1986. I still have it. Mr. Herron has always been one of my favorite knifemakers.

My thoughts and prayers to his family...

My condolences to the family. Mr Herron was truly one of the legends of knife making.

He was a prominent maker who helped promote the custom knifemaking craft. Sad to hear the news. Smoke sent and may all find peace from within.

What a sad day, and a huge loss.
Mr. Herron helped so many to develop and build their knife skills.
My sympathies to his family and his protégé.

That is sad. The custom knife world is really experiencing the same thing that the film and television industry has been experiencing for a number of years. Many of the true pioneers of the art have passed. Fortunately for us, the great knifemakers like Mr. Herron left such a rich legacy and brought so many into the fold that it will be easier for the rest of us to carry forward their vision.

George was a wonderful maker, top tier, stopped taking orders years ago, he felt he would never get caught up.

He influenced and taught many makers, William Defreest(passed on a short time ago) Bobby Branton, Geno Denning....etc.

He will be missed!

Best Regards,

A mentor, and Friend. They didn't come any better that George. This has taken the props out from under me. He really thought he was getting better, and looking forward to making a few knives. George was really good to me. And stuck up for me when I needed it the most. We miss you George. Mike and Manuela

Man...I was so sorry to hear about this! I was one of George's customers (and Harry's too, when he was making knives). We only met a few times, but George always took the time to talk knives and hunting with me at the shows. That really made me feel welcome, and I know what a great influence he was to a lot of the other guys too.

I'll always remember George with that pipe of his, and I'll always love his knife designs and style. Now a few of us are going to have to step up and keep Ruger in business by buying the #1 rifle!

Again, I'm just so sorry to hear about this, and our thoughts and prayers will be with George's family.
