George Herron

Just got back from the visitation. Incredible, stood in line for 45 minutes, lots of people there. Myself, Bob Neal, Bruce Voyles, Karen Shook and Dan Winkler, Jason Knight, Larry Page, Bobby Branton, Wayne Hensley. There were collectors that I knew there and a lot of friends of George.

I've known George for 20 years and am a better person because of that.

I just got home. I would have to say 200 people at least. I stood in line for at least 45 minutes myself.

George was a mighty fine man and made a difference in some peoples lives. God bless him and his family.

Sadly, I never met George. I only know of Geroge Herron from the words of his friends. By that measure, he must have been a giant. Our sincere condolences to his friends and family.

My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends!! I am deeply sorry for your loss.

Goodbye Mr. George -- a brilliant knifemaker, a friend, an advisor, a father-figure, and a hunting buddy. He almost singlehandly mentored knifemaking in South Carolina, but some of my most cherished memories is of sitting in a deer hunting lodge with George talking about everything in the world except knives.
There is a big ache in my soul at the moment, and for those who know his impact on the knife game there is a big ache in the soul of knives as well.
I told Miss Barbara last night at the visitation that when the news of George's passing went out into the piney woods of South Carolina that every whitetail in the state had breathed a collective sign of relief. George's daughter Diane said that she and her Mom had seen a deer just that morning, closer to their home than they ever seen one in all the years George was alive.
