Georgia buckeye

Hello, here are some pictures of the Georgia buckeye I found on the side of the road in a pile. This buckeye -according to the tree book of Georgis-grows in the northern part of the state, hum maybe i could find a burl.lol. It is nothing too special but interesting enough ;)anyway. Enjoy--Mark

The color looks great and it seems to have really good figure too. I'd say you scored!

Out west the burls form mostly underground. Look for the trunk to spread at ground level then dig back a few inches of dirt and you'll know if there is a burl or not.
 
Hey Mark, i couldnt explore the situation any more than I did. A Korean lady answered the door-when i went to ask for the roadside wood, she seemd scared like i was gonna rob her--so to go snooping in the back yard for a underground burl would have been a no no. You cant really see to well from the photos but many of those pieces have a bit of quilted /curly figure in them. It is not as striking as the buckeye burl but maybe i could dye them! Ill see. They seem to be fairly dry and light as hell. Thanks-Mark
 
I wouldn't dye the pieces you showed in the photo. I think the colors look really good as they are. The figure will get really 3 dimensional when it is fine sanded and polished. Sometimes figure like that can look better than burl.
