I bought a Gerber Airframe at a garage sale. It wasn't cheap but the price seemed fair. Brand new in the box. Seems like a nice knife and I remember a lot of hype in the knife magazines. I went to the Gerber web site to learn more about it and found that it was discontinued after only 1800 were made. Does anybody know anything about the Airframe? Since it's discontinued should I forget about using it and save it for resale or trade later?

I don't know if a search will work in the review forum, but there has been alot posted there about it. In a nutshell they couldn't produce it as they thought they could.

I'd say enjoy what you have, IMO it's not going to become collectible. How much didya pay? I think net price was around $130.

Yes, only 1800 were made. Of that 1800 total, only 40 of them were made with ti handles that were actually cast. The remainder were machined. They were pricey knives but were very nice. The Taiwanese made Gerber Intl. Harsey Air Ranger folder has the exact same lines as an Air Frame but without the skeltonization and on a smaller scale. I call it a "poor man's Air Frame"

Thanks to all for the info. I paid a bit more than $ 130 I'm embarrassed to say. I have enough folders now that I'll probably put the Airframe away for the day when I can either sell it for what a paid or trade it.

No need to be embarrassed, what you have is a collectors item as well as a good using knife. They stopped making them because the cost was out of sight.
