Well my Gerber Airframe has been sitting at the neighbors house since Thursday. UPS man dropped if off there and my neighbor just got time today to bring it over. Oh well at least I got it!
First impression is very favorable. The knife has a great feel to it with the titanium handle having a swell about halfway down the handle. Fits real good in my hand. Blade is centered in the handle in the closed position and lockup is perfect covering the blade tang to the left with plenty of room for any wear. What really got my attention was the opening. This is one of very few knives I have gotten that did not require me to tighten it up. I do like them tight. Also halfway closed you feel it stop. Real neat!
Only negatives are blade thickness as this knife screams to be .156 thick but is only about .120 thick. Still good though. Back spacer is some type of polymer and mold line is very visible down the center of it. Again this is fixable so its not too bad.
All in all I really like this one. Solid feel and razor sharp with a good blade shape that will handle many different tasks. BTW I have the machined handle and blade is marked "First Production Run". From what I understand it may be the only run! Got mine from the Knifecenter at about the cost of a Microtech LCC M/A.

Well, that happens - at least for me...

Anyway, here it is:
It is really said that Airframe is allready discontinued.

I wonder why?

After a couple of days carrying the airframe, I like it even more. The opening is just plain buttery smooth. Lockup is COMPLETELY tight with NO wobble whatsoever. I am still impressed over how the handle swells in the middle of the knife. There is a groove cut into the blade tang that stops the blade halfway when closing. That last 1/4" it seems like the handle just sucks the blade in, sorta like the "walk and talk" on a good slipjoint.

I think Gerber really did their homework on this knife. Everything is precise. It's a shame that this knife is not going to be around long, at least in current form, so I went ahead and ordered a second one.

I tell you, this is a great knife. You can't really tell from the picture, but when you hold it and open/close it you will see what I mean.

Art, I really like mine. The potential short supply only adds to the mystique (to me anyway). These are well made. I was hoping the Airframe would stir some interest in the younger forumites here and encourage Gerber to keep on this track with higher quality pieces. ..Ed.
