Anybody have one of these I just ordered one and I like how it looks I plan to unscrew the entire blade pivot and thing including the liner so it will be thinner. I also know that it is going to get scratched up so has anybody taken a dremel with a wire brush on it and removed the coating? If you have pics would be awesome.

I have one right here in front of me. You might as well leave the blade holder on there. The way it is made, taking it off won't really thin it out much. The finish on mine seems to be holding up pretty well, but it doesn't get carried a lot.

Can you take off the blade holder and liner and do a quick pic? And I think it would look better without the blade holder and liner.

I'm not going to disassemble it for you, but in my opinion it would look like hell with the parts missing. The frame is milled out for the locking leaf, and offset for the blade holder.

Of course, you can do whatever pleases you with yours.

The only "plastic" on the tool is the nylon washer between the blade holder and the frame.

I thought the blade holder was made of plastic not metal that might change if I take it off. I was thinking it was an all metal tool with some janky piece of plastic on it.

A magnet will stick to it, which pretty much rules out all the plastics I know of.

That would make sence, also I might leave the blade in and I heard that it sometimes opens itself. Has this happened to you?

the X-blade thingy is bound real tight, and stiff enough to warrant opening with both hands!

There is no way, IME, that this thing can open itself. It's a damn tight lock-up. I have two of them. One stashed in the FAK and one I keep from when I worked at Academy S&O and couldn't carry a real knife because one of our customers who came in to buy a gun or a knife might be offended or frightened.

Maybe, if he had taken it apart and/or loosened the pivot screw enough, or if he got enough dirt packed into the detent hole, or if the detent ball was missing. In other words, only if it was defective. Half the time I feel like I need a prybar to open the blade. The closed detent on mine is stronger than the one on my Spyderco S90V Military, and that is saying something.

I have an Artifact and love it but it did open up on me. As a result I cut my finger when I was reaching in my pocket to get my keys. I carry mine on a salt water quick release
swivel so I can separate it from the rest of my keys easily. This quick release has an oblong wire bail that wedged into the blade holder due to the triangular hole the Artifact has. It caused the blade to open only a 1/2 inch or so but that was enought to recieve a fairly deep cut on my middle finger. Most people probably won't carry theirs this way. I now have an o-ring over the blade part to keep it closed when I'm not using it.

It sure surprised the hell out of me when it happened.

One would assume. I had some cheap-o flea market knife that had a glass breaker and seatbelt cutter and the screw the held the blade fell off so when I reached to get my super cool knife it cut the hell out of my finger when I pulled it out.
