Gerber Artifact

Does the stuff in the Gerber logo come like that from the factory or is it some gunk from your pockets?

That's some gunk from somewhere. It could be paint, drywall mud, caulking, sheetrock dust, Kansas clay...

You get the idea. ;)

It would be the ideal blade to have when going through air port security. If they catch it going through, just pop off the blade and toss the blade. The Exacto blades are cheap, put a new on when you get there. Never tried it, but its a thought...I suppose the same goes for a super knife.

I would shy away from trying to sneak anything though airport security. Not worth the consequence.

Though I vary rarely travel by plane (basically always go by car), an airport is one of the last places I would like to get caught while trying to be a smart pants.
Peace of mind is something I cherish and will go out of my way for, specially in the times we currently live in.

Absolutely adore my lil' Artifact. I use the heck out of it. For a $10 chinese made tool from Target, it's probably one of the best minimalist tools out there. I find a use for it everyday. Most of the time, it's all the tool I need day in and day out.

That said, if the explosive underwear terrorists don't get EVERYTHING banned via plane travel, you might look at the Shard:

Comes out next month....just in time for my birthday:D
Save up your pennies, though. It comes in at a whopping MSRP of just shy of 8 bucks;)

dougo83,

I must agree with you. Its better not to push your luck. We need to act responsibly.

Thanks,

Ric

Anybody have one of these I just ordered one and I like how it looks I plan to unscrew the entire blade pivot and thing including the liner so it will be thinner. I also know that it is going to get scratched up so has anybody taken a dremel with a wire brush on it and removed the coating? If you have pics would be awesome.

I just picked one up a couple of weeks ago and was pleasantly surprised how well made it is for a $10 gadget. I thought about taking the blade holder off before getting it, but the holder is metal, the lock supurb, the blades, well, they're craft blades, so not terribly industrial, but they do the job for light tasks. I have yet to have mine open without really trying, but I am sure it could happen for someone.

I would leave the finish intact unless you can seal the bare metal to keep the blade easy to clean and resist the corrosion.

Remember, you are not buying a $100+ widget, just a $10 one, so just get it, and if you don't like it, send it my way!:D

BTW, already planning on getting the Schard as soon as available for who knows what, mainly because I like my Artifact so well.

Just my .02......

I would love the shard but with a smaller hole...

I'm pretty sure it's stainless so it should be good and if it is carbon its only going to have pocket time so its not going to see alot of water. And if I get one I plan to take a dremel and take off the coating so it will be the bare steel.

A thought: I have two of these, I think, if I can find the other, I can send it your way.

That would be amazing dude. People like you are what make these forums great :thumbup:

Send me an address to osgood[dot]douglas[at]gmail[dot]com so I can get one in the mail. Just found the spare laying around. It's got some lint on it, but it hasn't been used much at all.

There are some ideas without the blade for you here; otherwise call Gerber Gear and order a Shard. Shards aren't available through the website and they're $12 each before shipping, but every place else Froogle listed online doesn't have them.

Wow i'm so going to steel wool off the coating. I wish I knew where to get quick steel though. And I heard a couple people have gotten them cause they know Gerber reps.

Ben, I'm not 100% sure but I think quick steel is just JB Weld. Walmart, Lowes, or any hardware store will sell it for around $5.

Mixing it is easy. Getting it to finish that smooth...well I certainly lack that skill:D:o

Yup...it is very similar to JB Weld, but comes in stick form.

Well when I do it im going to let it harden and then sand it down so it will finish better. Does anybody know like a brand name for the epoxy stuff or stuff you recomend?
