Can anyone give me the basics on the Gerber "Bolt Action" pocket knives?
When were they made? How strong is that type of lock? How many variants were there? What blade Steel(s) did they use?

I consider the Bolt Action the ancestor of both the Axis and SOG's new Arclock.

The BA lock had a pin that rammed forward into a tang slot. It rode in a channel carved into the grip material, generally a high-tech plastic of some sort.

It reached it's pinnacle in the old Gerber Parabellum, the first megafolder. With a 4.5" blade, it wasn't all that long but it was a BEEFY 440C wide and thick blade. Damned fine knife even by today's standards...too expensive to produce now, or at least so Gerber thinks. They oughta re-issue it in a really good steel, at least ATS34, preferrably BG42, 420V or whatever.

I bot one when they first came out around 81 or so after seeing an ad for it in SOF.
