My Gerber mini fast draw took a crap. Doesn't lock or spring open. Anyone ever returned anything to Gerber? How are they about sending a replacement? This POS is only 7 months old with very very light use.

I see that thing going for sixteen bucks. Is it even worth it to go to
the Post Office and stand in line? What if they did something really
nasty and sent you a new one? : )

I would send it back. They will most likely replace it. Its worth a try.

I believe that Gerber is a god company with warranties. When I had a problem with a Carolina Knife and Tool Winchester branded knife (they own Carolina and the Winchester knife trademark)- they offered to help me out even though my knife was not covered by warranty.

Throw it out. Learn your lesson. No more gerber.

I would send it in though.

Matt

junk it and buy something of more quality and make this a lesson learned and least not a costly one:)

It's a Gerber what do you expect......

Or, if they're in a really bad mood, they might send 2!!

ok ok....I learned my lesson. It was my first knife! Since then only have bought kershaws and lately Benchmades...but, damn, it's the principle of the thing!

I sent back a Gerber ridge...something or another when the locking bar broke and they sent a new one right away.

it's the only gerber I own other than some multitools.

I remember years ago when Gerber and Buck were synonymous with at least some level of quality. Its a shame when a manufacturer takes there production overseas and starts selling junk products.

Sue em'.....

get an ambulance chaser and take them for all they have.

You shouldn't have to out up with that performance for $23.95.

The USA made Gerbers are generally good quality knives.
The LMF II, for example.

But the cheap crap made overseas that they're willing to put their name on?
That stuff is really to be avoided.

i personally love my gerber multitool, I take that thing everywhere due to my current lack of an edc knife. I've never had a problem with it, though the cutting blade has a thin blade, like a swiss army knife (my dad just got himself a new one, and they have remedied this problem, the blade now is cut much thicker) That tool sees a lot of abuse, as well as a heavy coating of sand, dirt, and other abrasive whatnots. I would trust a gerber knife, though I know that there are superior brands *cough*kershaw*cough*.

Hmm, there seem to be a lot of Gerber haters round here.
Gerber makes good knives. Not great knives, like Kershaw or Benchmade, but good knives nonetheless. My Ripstop was $16 at Target. I bought a CRKT, had problems with the pockeet clip and the stupid double lock. Started carrying my Case stockman, but missed the safety and convenience of a locking blade. I wanted a knife like my brother's Kershaw, but I went back to carrying the Gerber, and was quite happy with it, until the inevitable happened- it snagged in a hole in the booth at Biscuitville and the pocket clip bent, no longer holding it secure. It was not nearly as bad as with my CRKT, but with all due respect I am a big guy, two meters tall and 220 lbs, with a lot of force behind me.
I still have the Ripstop. Sure, it's not my EDC. I bought a Benchmade Vex for that, a great knife, but the pocket clip screws kept wiggling loose and that annoyed me. So finally for Christmas I got a Buck Mayo Hilo, my new EDC knife. Yes it's made in China but its still a good knife. I'm sure the Benchmade is a better blade, but I like the Buck better. I might, someday, buy a Griptillian.
My other Gerbers are a Fatty lockback- admittadly, it didn't come with a great factory edge, but that can be remedied, a Nautilus, again, not a great edge, and a small FAST- with a good edge.
My dad also had two Gerbers- a multi-tool and a big lockback, both of whih serve him well.
If you're looking for great knives, than no, Gerber isn't your brand. But if you're looking for good, durable knives, that can be bought just about anywhere, get thyself a Gerber.

Gerber used to be awesome way back in the day, then some crap started getting made.
You can still find great Gerbers, but you have to be discerning now.
I had a $30 Gerber folder which worked fine; I gave it to my brother. "Mystery Steel" just bothers me.
But there's still good Gerbers with name brand steel out there.

Like the Drop Point Gator.

Made in USA, 3-3/4 inch drop point 154CM blade, great tight lockup and razor sharp.

$38 bucks street price, I think it's great deal.

Gerbers are OK knives, but not if it is going to be your only knife. Do yourself a favor and get a Cold Steel Voyager. It's the best folder made....period! It will out last you, and maybe your grandkids.

Semper Fi!

I have a bunch of CRKTs and some Gerbers. I will never buy another Gerber again, but I still recommend CRKTs to people if they're not the lower level AUS4 garbage. The AUS4 bladed "flippers" are good for rugged tasks like opening potato chip bags and spreading butter on a hot roll, but other than that the only thing they're good for is throwing at trees (at least trees can't throw them back!).

The Gerber Gator is about as good as you'll get in a "deal" from Gerber, but the Gator IIs all have "400-series" stainless blades. The Gators are listless, lacking any type of rapid opening feature and having a face only a mother could love. Still, it beats an AUS6 pigsticker. I think Spyderco's Native for $40 is a far better choice. Besides, given Gerber's inflated prices of its other knives, I'm just suspicious of the Gator.
