I'm thinking of picking one up. I've looked at Bucks, Kershaws & Wetterlings and I think I've settled on this one. Any thoughts on this axe?

Thanks,
Steve

Not sure which size you mean. I have a Gerber Extra Large Axe (28" handle) and a little Buck Camp Axe (about 14"). Both came pretty sharp and are easy to sharpen. You can get the Buck for $20 in red ($30 in yellow or black) at Smoky Mountain Knife Works where I believe the Gerbers are a bit higher. I can't really see any difference in quality.

The "Camp Axe" is 17.52 inches with a larger head as opposed to the Buck Axe. Gerber also makes a "Sport Axe" which is about the same size as the Buck and about 3.5" shorter.
Gerber also makes a "Professional Camp Axe" for about $20 more than the standard, but I have no idea what the difference is.
I get the sense that the Gerber Sport as well as the Buck is more of a hatchet.

Doesn't Fiskar own Gerber? So if you have seen everyone praising their Fiskar the gerber probally isn't far off. I could be wrong feel free to correct me.

Gerber axes are made by Fiskar in Finland. I have their sport axe and I'm happy with it.

That's enough information for me! Thanks for the Fiskar's/Gerber's connection. I'll pick one up and go from there.
Much appreciated!

Steve

I have a fiskars/gerber sport axe, and I like it a lot. After convexing the edge, it's VERY sharp, and holds it's edge pretty well. I don't think you'll regret the purchase.
