Gerber COMBAT Folder

What is "bunk" about the spine whack test? My AF Combat Folder's lock fails every time I give it just a moderate whack on the spine. I've tested other knives in the same price range (and cheaper) with this method. Some pass, some fail. I'm not satisfied with the level of quality of most liner locks, particularly Gerber's. Bottom line, IMO, I don't want a using knife that might close up on my hand under heavy usage. Especially one that's to be used for self defense. I don't have lots of money to buy knives. I have to make my purchases wisely. I'm not a collector. I buy knives I'm going to use and since I live in Los Angeles one of the possible uses of a knife I carry is to protect my life. I'm not going to trust my life to a liner lock that's going to fold up on me like a cheap tent. YMMV.

I've just learnt that "chalupa", as well as being Czech for <EM>farmhouse</EM>, is Spanish for <EM>small canoe</EM>. I am less frightened by the thought of someone wielding a small canoe than by that of someone wielding a building.
