Gerber F.A.S.T. broke :( Advice please

Have you ever used a Benchmade Axis knife before?

You should if you haven't. Much simpler to open and close then autos, and even assisted, as autos tend to have a lot of pressure on the buttonlock and when resetting the knife. Assist require some exertion to get past the detent.

Axis requires just a nudge of the Axis to release it and to close, with the blade free when released.

It's really easy to handle 1 handed, with just a thumb.. and you don't even need to bend the thumb. Just shift the hand.

Axis would be my prescription for arthritis or weak hands or for lazy people like me.

That is one nice looking knife, but more for my Christmas list. Trying to keep the price around $50, or less, for the time being.

For what it's worth, so far I've had an opportunity to look both a Link, and a Skyline. These are both very nice knives, and on my short list of "going to get one soon"

My son in law loaned me his Buck Quickfire for a couple of days, and I was also impressed with this knife. Love the way it opens, but not being able to close it open handed is a little inconvenient, and the handle is a little bulky for my taste. Do you folks have any sort of opinion on the Quickfire, either to sway me toward or away from future purchase?

Anyway, after looking at the small handful that I had a chance to look at, kept coming back to the Gerber. Even though I probably would have denied it if someone had asked, part of the appeal seems to be the fact that the assist is pretty low key. It's easy to employ, yet doesn't feel like it's going to torque out of your hand when it opens--and the slim profile handle. The slow open is also probably an indirect reason for it's early demise--the spring is just not beefy enough. Dunno.

So, for this purpose, I'm going to stick with this knife. With the kind kind assistance of board member dcmartin I now have a backup Gerber to tide me over until the company gets around to fixing and returning mine. I figure with one in reserve I can keep being knife-less to a minimum. Also bought a mini Gerber fast draw, that is suitable for 80% of the things the things I use it for, so I have a another knife that will work in a pinch.

Again, thank you all for your input and wise advice. Any further input will also be welcome, and appreciated.

Kershaw CQC series? Not sure if a wave opener is enough for you though since you don't always open a knife directly from draw.

Hey bud! Glad you are getting some use of the old girl! I'll keep my eyes peeled if another comes by!
hope Gerber gets your back to you soon.
